Established in July 1966, Chikkanna Government Arts College started its academic curriculum from Devangapuram Co-operative society building. Now the college is located in the sprawling campus built on 40 acres of land, at Tiruppur. It is affiliated with Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and has got NAAC accreditation. The College is approved by UGC.

Students who want to enroll into the college must collect the application form from the College Office and duly submit the same within ten days of the announcement of the HSC results. The management then prepares the rank list based on the marks scored in the HSC exam and the reservation criteria of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The Training and Placement Cell of the college facilitates the process of Placement in the college. It makes sure that every candidate should get the opportunity to work in the industry. The Placement officer organises workshops on personality development, career guidance, tips to face interviews, and many more programs to make the students capable of finding relevant job opportunities that match their profile.
The college campus was developed at Tiruppur and is surrounded with a granite stone-based compound wall. The campus infrastructure includes six blocks: A, B, C, D, E, and F. The academic facilities available in these blocks are laboratories, smart class rooms, computers, audio visual hall, library, etc. There are eight computer laboratories with 200+ computers on the college campus. All the departments utilise the computing facilities on rotation and need basis.
