Since its inception in 1952, AM Jain College has been offering quality education to aspiring young individuals in society. Sri. S S Jain Educational Society set the foundation of this college. It is affiliated with the University of Madras which is UGC recognised. The institute is NAAC-accredited. The college operates under two shifts and the second shift was inaugurated as an evening college in the year 1972.

AM Jain College Chennai offers students different courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels in various specializations. It offers courses in arts, science, commerce, and information technology with other communication courses. To take admission in the institution, students must submit all the required documents and must meet the eligibility criteria. Students can also join the institution by qualifying in any of the national level entrance examination with eligible marks to secure their admission. During the academic session, students must maintain 75% of attendance to appear in semester-end examinations. Students must have a passing certificate of 10+2 examination from any affiliated institution to secure their admission for any undergraduate course. To take admission to any of the postgraduate courses, students need to have a bachelor's degree from any recognized institution. Students having a Masters or M.Phil degree can join the Ph.D. program of this institution.
Established in the year 1952 with only 200 books and required facilities, the college library plays n important role. Within the passing year, the library has increased the collection and managed to set up two excellent libraries. Shift-1 library has more than 70,000 books, 15 journals, 20 magazines, newspapers, and around 2000 back volumes on various topics. The library also subscribes to INFONET and various online portals and e-resources to offer students a wide range of e-collection of data. The library is well-maintained and equipped with proper staff members and facilities to create a learning environment. Shift-2 library has a collection of 20000 reading material with an online subscription of various e-portals such as INFLIBNET. Both the libraries provide high-speed internet facilities and installed with the latest computers to help students in their research work. It offers students reprography, photocopying, and book borrowing facilities.
