The Chellammal Women’s College, Chennai as the name suggests was set up as an institute for girls’ education in the year 1971 with an intent to bring social change by providing educational empowerment to young minds. The college operates in 2 shifts and offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programs which provides a broad scope in diverse career fields for students. The courses offered by the institute are:
Shift 1: B.Com, BA (Tamil / English / Economics), B.Sc (Chemistry / Advanced Zoology / Biotechnology), MA, M.Phil, and Ph.D (Tamil).
Shift 2: BBA, B.Com (General / Accounting & Finance / Corporate Secretaryship), B.Sc (Mathematics / Computer Science), M.Com, and MA (English).
The college conducts admission process for the students on a provisional basis, abiding to the rules by the University of Madras. The college has a systematic Placement Cell which provides career guidance and recruitment assistance to the students with an aim to bridge the gap between academic learning and the real world application of that information. This cell ensures that students are prepared with reasonable skills and knowledge that will help them in finding employment. College conducts various counseling sessions, workshops, training programs, industrial visits, expert lectures, mock interviews, orientation programs, research training, etc. for the students which give them an opportunity to perform with proficiency.
Various industrial firms like Andromeda BPO Pvt. Ltd, N-Trust Info-tech, AB Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd, etc conducted various training workshops and career fairs where students were given exposure to the industrial guidance and support. Some other companies like IBM, NIIT, Sunnet Solutions, Capgemini, TATA Consultancy Services, Sutherland Global Services, etc. also conduct several counselling and recruitment drives in the college.
The college provides a holistic atmosphere which helps the students to prepare them for a career oriented future and to nurture the young talents in the field of non academic prospects as well. The college provides students with a broad perspective for the students to bring out their potential talents. Various extracurricular, co-curricular, and cultural programs are also conducted in the college where students are encouraged to take part in different events and competitions like Cultural Fests, Sports Week, NCC, etc and help students to build their all round perception. Clubs like Eco club, Rotract club, Red Ribbon club, etc. organises a range of value based and informational programs. Facilities of Library, Seminar Rooms, Gym, Sports Ground for both indoor and outdoor games, Auditorium, etc are provided to students to carry out their activities and grow with edifying capability.
