The main campus of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is located in Varanasi, close to the banks of the river Ganga. The campus is designed in a semicircular layout with buildings that showcase a fine Indo-Gothic architecture.

In Varanasi, BHU campus area is huge, spread across 1,300 acres approximately i.e., around 5.3 kilometers. There are over 60 hostels at BHU Varanasi Campus that provide accommodation to over 12,000 students. Moreover, the campus offers many other facilities.

Banaras Hindu University has a fully Wi-Fi enabled campus. The University has a high-speed LAN (managed by a well-equipped Computer Centre) linking all academic buildings, administrative buildings, and the hostels. BHU Varanasi has over 100 smart classrooms that ensure the smooth conduct of academic activities. Moreover, Swatantrata Bhawan is the main auditorium of the University; in addition to this, the University has several auditoriums, seminar halls, and conference halls.

Furthermore, the Sir Sunderlal Hospital on the BHU main campus is a teaching hospital for the Institute of Medical Sciences. With over 900 beds, it is the largest referral hospital in the region. Also, Shri Vishwanath Mandir, located in the heart of the campus, stands as the tallest temple tower in the world and is the highlight of the campus. Moreover, there is a Botanical Garden located adjacent to the temple with nearly 60 medicinal plants.

• Library: The main library of BHU Varanasi is known as the Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library that has over 15,00,000 volumes with more than 50,000 e-books, subscription to around 15,000 online journals, and a huge database of manuscripts. In addition to the central library, the University has about 3 institute libraries, around 8 faculty libraries, and approximately 25 departmental libraries for the staff and students.
  Also, there is a fully air-conditioned Cyber Library with a sitting space for more than 200 students and a Periodical Hall with around 60 cabins for the use of faculty & research scholars.
• Sports: BHU Varanasi campus has several playgrounds, indoor and outdoor stadiums, separate courts for Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Squash, etc. There is also a swimming pool, and more facilities.
• Hostels: The University is known to have the largest residential campus in India with more than 72 hostels housing nearly 11,000 students. There is an International student hostel as well to accommodate foreign students. Furthermore, BHU hostels have guest houses and staff quarters.
• Healthcare Facilities: There are separate health complexes at different locations in the campus that provide 24x7 healthcare services. The SS Hospital at BHU has all modern facilities to provide free treatment to students, scholars, and staff members.
• Gymnasium: The Chhatrapati Shivaji gymnasium offers Gymnastics and other facilities for Mallakhamba, Weight lifting, Wrestling, Power lifting, and Yoga.
