West Bengal State University [WBSU], Barasat established in 2008 is a State University. WBSU Barasat is approved by UGC. Admission in West Bengal State University is offered in Humanities, Science and Commerce at UG/ PG/ Doctorate level with scholarship benefits to deserving students.
West Bengal State University - WBSU Barasat was set up in the year 2008 to provide higher education in the field of Commerce, Humanities, and Science. Currently, 53 colleges are affiliated with the university. The University is approved by UGC as a “State University” and is accredited by NAAC.
Vision: WBSU Barasat is working with a vision of achieving academic excellence which is comprehensive and within the reach of all.
Mission: Its mission is to create a flexible and interdisciplinary academic structure which will cater to the needs of the society. It promotes research and ensures its results benefit and spread amongst the society.

The University supports students who lack financial resources for undertaking the educational journey and provides them partial fee waiver from its CSR fund to the eligible candidates. Additionally, students are also benefit from various government scholarships available on the National Scholarship Portal. Students who lost their parents in Covid-19 pandemic are also supported financially by the university.

The Training and Placement Cell does every possible task to make sure that students get their desired jobs in reputed and leading organisations. The Cell grooms its students by providing them training, conducting workshops, group discussions, and many more activities. It acts as a link between job seekers and recruiters.
All the activities conducted by the Cell are for facilitating employment for its students, which results in many leading organisations and sectors visiting the university campus for recruiting qualified personnel for their companies. Among the top recruiters of the university, few names are: Tata Consultancy Services, Nicco Ventures, Larsen & Toubro, Air Cell, Tech Mahindra, etc.
WBSU campus is situated in the North 24 Parganas district, Barasat, West Bengal. The campus is equipped with modern infrastructure facilities to provide an effective teaching and learning environment. The university started its academic curriculum in a single storied building and now has one Old Academic Block, Administrative Block, and a New Academic Block. Classrooms in the New Academic Block are well-ventilated and spacious and designed in a way to cater to the students’ educational demands. Wi-Fi is installed in the entire campus for education and research purposes. The University’s museum, named "Ballads of Bengal” showcases the rich history and glorious past of the district of North 24 Parganas and Bengal. State bus and Public Bus services from WBSU campus are provided to students to attend their classes on time.
