Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology - MAKAUT was established in 2001 in Kolkata, West Bengal under the West Bengal Act XV of 2000. The university has the approval of AICTE and UGC. The university is also accredited by NBA.
Vision: The vision of the university is to achieve the status of premier university at the global level in the discipline of Science and Technology. It produces managerial professionals who have social and ethical values as well as environmental consciousness to face the challenges of advanced technologies.
Mission: The University strives to achieve the goal of building a knowledgeable society, to transform the university system into an active instrument for social change, to strengthen the collaboration with recognised institutions in order to develop research, teaching, and learning. The university also aims to deliver quality education to tackle real life problems, and strive to produce professional entrepreneurs with social values for a qualitative human life.
The university offers UG (B.Tech), PG (M.Tech), Doctorate, and M.Phil in Management programs to the students in subjects like Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Industrial Engineering and Management, Microelectronics, etc.

There are different entrance exams conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Board for admissions in different streams (MCA, MBA, etc.) that are CET, JEMAT, JELET, JEHOM, and JECA. Candidates should refer to the website for specific courses.
Candidates can apply online through the link given on the website. Candidates should upload all the required documents (10th and 12th Mark – Sheets for UG, Graduation Mark–Sheet for PG, Aadhar Card, Rank Card, etc.) along with the mandatory details filled-up in the online form.
The university has certain scholarship programs to assist the meritorious students financially. One of the scholarships is Swami Vivekananda Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship Scheme through which students are awarded with monetary benefits. This scholarship scheme also has a sub-scheme named Kanyashree Prakalpa (Kanyashree-III) Scheme. This scheme is only for girl students who have passed UG with minimum 45% marks and are pursuing regular PG in the state. This scheme is only applicable for West Bengal residents. It has no family income criteria but the students should not apply for other Govt. scholarships.
Apart from this, the university has other scholarship programs too that are National Scholarship, GATE Scholarship, PMSSS J&K Scholarship, SC, ST, and OBC Scholarship, Aikyashree Minority Scholarship, and State Govt. Sponsored Stipend under Talent Support Program.

The university has a Placement Cell which focuses on the successful professional career of the students. The Cell conducts campus placement drive.
