For a professional course like B.Tech, the students are required to follow certain eligibility criteria as per the college. General category students should have scored a minimum of 45% marks whereas; SC/ST/SBC/OBC students should have scored a minimum of 40% in 10+2 exams with compulsory subjects like Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, and biotechnology. Apart from this, the students are finalized on the basis of counseling and score obtained in Rajasthan Engineering Admission Process (REAP), which is done as per the norms of the Rajasthan Board of Technical Education.

VIT was established by Bagaria Education Trust, a group of professionals who brought about a major change in the education system of rural areas. The trust went on to develop education institutes to promote education, especially amongst women. Students when started showing curiosity towards science and technology. It was decided to establish an engineering college. Vivekananda Institute of Technology is an attempt to guide the resourceful brains in the right direction. The devotion of these people to inculcate education made the promoters name the college after Swami Vivekanand Ji.
