The journey of SASTRA University was started in the year 1984 and it was given Deemed-to-be University status in the year 2001. UGC has recognised the University and it is accredited by NAAC. The University offers UG, PG, and Doctoral courses in the field of Management, Education, Engineering, Sciences, Law, and Humanities.

The admission process of SASTRA University is purely conducted through online mode including all the steps from submitting an application form to paying the tuition fee. The University conducts admission in B.Tech and M.Tech programs through Stream 1 and Stream 2 procedures:

50% of the seats in the University will be filled based on Applicant’s score in JEE (Mains) and 12th. Both the scores will be given 50% importance each. |
The remaining 50% of the seats in the University will be filled based on the Applicant’s 12th scores. |
*All the Applicants will be considered for admission on either of the above-mentioned streams. The University allots around 20% of seats and 30% of seats to students who have completed their schooling from Thanjavur & Trichy and Tamil Nadu respectively. The allotment of seats for All India (with appropriate limits for major states) does not change with special provisions for North East and other States / Union Territories.
To get admission to other PG programs offered by the university, students have to qualify for UG programs. For the MBA program, applicants need to have good scores in XAT / MAT / CAT / CMAT / AIMCAT. To get admission to Engineering programs, applicants must qualify the GATE exam. To pursue all programs in the Law stream, the University will consider admission based on scores in CLAT and 12th in the ratio of 25% and 75% respectively. For all the other programs in the field of Commerce, Science, Education, Arts, and others, the University will consider scores of the CUET exam.

The University is recognized by UGC and accredited ‘A+’ by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). The varsity is consistently securing top ranks in Engineering by NIRF and NAAC has re-accredited it with Grade ‘A+’.
The academic institute was established in 1984 by the name of Shanmugha College of Engineering but was later renamed to Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy. The infrastructure, programs, learning, teaching etc. of SASTRA is among the finest. It has been proactive in academic planning and as an attestation to this, the Government of India has conferred it the status of Deemed University on April 26, 2001.
The varsity is equipped with a well-stocked library with vast collections of books. Students can also access the database online as there are over 12,000 journals, 17,00,000 Ph.D dissertations, 91,400 e-books. They can also access several thousand legal and business policies, titles, court judgments, etc.
Academia has been ranked 33 in the category of Engineering colleges in India and 36 among universities and overall 54.
The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses in Science, Engineering, Law, Management, and Arts. Academia fills 70% of B.Tech seats on the basis of score obtained in JEE Mains and 30% according to merit-based on 10+2 marks followed by counseling. B.Tech lateral and integrated is also available.
Candidates willing to take admission in LL.B must have a qualified CLAT examination. Admission in B.Ed, B.Sc, BBA-LL.B, M.Sc, BCA, and MCA is based on the marks obtained in the last qualifying examination. Admission in M.Tech is based on the score obtained in GATE. Candidates with a valid score in CAT/CMAT/XAT or ATMA are eligible for admission in the MBA program. For admission in Ph.D, the University conducts an entrance test followed by an interview. Academia follows strict attendance criteria and students must have a minimum of 90% attendance to appear in semester examination.
