Hostels at SASTRA Deemed University are offered separately to boys and girls. The University has constructed multiple hostels to accommodate the most of students and to give them a homely feeling while they are away from home. The hostels are located amidst greenery, offering a favourable environment.

SASTRA University has approximately 9 hostels for boys and for girls, there are nearly 6. The accommodating capacity of the boys’ hostel is near about 4,000, and for the girls’ hostel, it is over 2,400. The University offers two types of room options which include single to 4 sharing rooms with attached washrooms and single to 6-sharing occupancies without attached toilets. The hostels are well-equipped with basic furniture like chairs, tables, and storage spaces.

The SASTRA University hostel fees depend on a single factor which is the kind of accommodation. Since the rooms are offered on different sharing or single occupancy basis, the fees vary. Also, the fees of the rooms which have attached bathrooms are usually higher.

SASTRA Deemed University has set some rules & regulation for hostellers to create a disciplined atmosphere; the rules are described below:

• Students are strictly prohibited from using any other exit other than the main entrance / exit.
• Hostellers must maintain a 100% attendance for their renewal in the hostel for the next academic year. If their attendance drops below 75%, they might become ineligible for hostel accommodation.
• It is mandatory for the students to enter into the hostel premises before 6.30 pm.
• Smoking and consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited.
• Hostellers are not allowed to use any electrical items like an electrical heater.
• The warden of the hostel takes a roll call everyday between 9 PM to 10 PM, and all the hostellers have to present during this roll call with their ID cards. For lady hostellers, the roll call usually takes place between 6.30 PM to 7.30 PM.
• Students are permitted to leave the hostels only during festival holidays and two weekends in a semester. 
• Students are required to bring a few items before settling in the hostels such as laundry bag, desk lamp, eating utensils, pillows and mattress pad, extra-long sheets, and a first-aid kit.

The SASTRA University Thanjavur Hostels are equipped with basic and recreational facilities that make students’ stay more comfortable. The on-campus hostels can give space to more than 6000 students overall (including boys & girls). The SASTRA University hostel rooms have furnishings like individual beds, closets, desks, and chairs. To make students’ stay safe & secure, there is a Public Safety Office located in the Student Centre and guards are always on duty.

One of the most interesting factors of the University hostels is that students get a ‘Housing Preference Form’ which allows students to choose their roommates. The hostel authority makes every effort to match roommates, only if both the students return their preference form and make their housing deposits before the deadline.
