With the vision to inculcate and sustain the overall quality in all dimensions of higher education harboring the national and global needs in the sectors of human rights, value system, culture and heritage of the country; the Harish Chandra Post Graduate College was established in the year 1866 by the founder of modern Hindi language Bharatendu Harishchandra himself. Owing to certain amendments of BHU, the college shifted its affiliation to the University of Gorakhpur in 1960. Currently, the university runs under the affiliation of MG Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi.
The mission of this college is to equip and empower the students with relevant knowledge, creativity, and competence to face global challenges and also to promote the building up of character within the youth by teaching them about religion and ethics as an integral part of education. This institution also promotes the right kinds of leadership in all walks of life.
The college has accreditation by both NAAC and UGC, and AICTE also recognizes it. Harish Chandra College provides various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses are based on entrance examinations conducted by the University for Various Specializations, and entry in B. Ed is based on the entrance exam conducted by Uttar Pradesh Government-authorized university.
The college has a well-stocked central library with a vast bulk of books in it. Students and faculty members can find all their requirements for books, periodicals, and journals from the central library. It has a sufficient amount of resources for the courses which are offered. The library also contains a separate reading room that can accommodate atleast 70-80 students. Minimum 75% attendance is necessary to appear in the examination.
