The only University in Assam with a private sector NAAC A Grade, Assam Don Bosco University Guwahati is a project of SDB, the Salesians of Don Bosco, initiated by the Don Bosco Society of Azara in Guwahati. The University aims to teach and train students with excellent courses for finishing school skills and quality placements. The three sections of the educational courses and research are technology, service, and social. Information, biotechnology, and related fields are a part of the information section. Nursing, pharmacy, paramedical, psychology, management, counseling, arts, media, and teacher education. Also, social work, rural development, and other relevant courses are available in the service sector. Ethics, religion and culture, governance, tribal studies, and various other courses are being offered in the social sector section.
There are facilities for distance education in remote areas, making it accessible for students all around. The Don Bosco University, Assam, has distance education programs that enable IT techniques. Commitment toward society is the prime motto of Don Bosco University, for which they provide community educational facilities through training programs for women, farmers, and local industries. Creating a fully funded residential school for disadvantaged tribal children is also a part of Don Bosco University. They ensure equality with the help of scholarships, free studentships for disadvantaged deserving students, and student education loans officially approved by AICTE, ARIIA Report, IQAC, NAAC, NIRF, NAD, and UGC. They have a combination of four campuses.
The main Tapesia campus, 300 acres of clear hill view, is located in the beautiful Tapesia Gardens off National Highway 37. This campus has a capacity of 5000 students and staff with schools of humanities and social sciences, applied and life sciences. Assam Don Bosco University Azara campus is off the airport road and hosts the school of technology. The Karguli campus is in Ramsai Hills on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. It hosts the school of commerce and management and non-formal vocational courses for Don Bosco University. Lastly, the Maligaon campus is adjacent to the railway colony and hosts formal and informal vocational and skill development courses. Fr (Dr.) Stephen Mavely was the first Vice-Chancellor/Resident of the University in 2008. Fr. Januarius Sangma SDB is the Chairman, Chancellor, and Provincial Superior. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal is the Principal and FR (Dr.) P.D. John is the Director.
Assam Don Bosco University Admission process is similar to all the PG, UG, Doctorial, and distance education courses. The admission process for BBA, BCA, B.Tech and BA honours is by obtaining the prospectus, which is available on dbuniversity.ac.in for free under the admissions section in the footer of the website. After accessing the online application portal of the University, fill out the Don Bosco University application form. Once filled, submit the form and find a payment link to pay fees of Rs. 600 via net banking, UPI (Gpay, PayTM, BHIM), or NEFT to the university account. Post this; the University will schedule an entrance test or an interview for which the details will be shared personally.
All the candidates must appear for the entrance tests or personal interviews depending on the course selection. Both will be conducted on the same day, and admissions are provided based on the results. The student must submit original mark sheets, proof of DOB, and caste/tribe/community certificate, and students must fill out the health form for verification purposes. The qualified students can pay the admission fees before 5:00 p.m. on the day of admission to confirm the seat, or it may lead to cancellation. Balance fees, if any, must be paid within 7 days via cash, cheque, UPI, or online payment at the admission portal or NEFT. The entrance test for DBU-GET B.Tech regular and regular lateral entrance is considered. The students who did not appear for JEE or state entrance are not eligible for DBU-GET. These three hours test will examine the candidates for the 12th standard on their knowledge of chemistry, physics, and mathematics. The B.Tech entrance test can be conducted online, so the date and time will be informed personally. All students must appear for the Don Bosco University Graduate entrance exam for lateral entry. They will be examined on their knowledge of mathematics, computer science, English, and the discipline of seeking admission.
The Don Bosco University, Assam, offers several scholarship schemes to an economically weak section of students and also with disabilities. Merit
The University has provided a scholarship amount of 4 crores plus for the students who can avail of it based on their merit performance in the entrance exams. The eligibility for B.Tech is 90% PCM, NE 8.5 SGPA with no. of students, 2X5=10 and giving 100% of the fees. Similarly 80% = 35,000, JEE/CEE merit list = 25,000, sports rep in NE = 15,000 per student. For M.Sc, biochem, biotech, botany, chemistry, physics, zoology, microbiology, and MA mass com, the eligibility is different so on and so forth for all the courses.
Economical status
16 scholarships are available overall for B.Tech, BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA, BCA, M.Tech, MA, M.Sc, M.Com, and MCA for Rs. 10,000 per semester. The gross family income of the student is to be less than 2 lakhs P.A. and is to be certified by Panchayat President or equivalent.
Disabilities
Scholarships for the disabled are provided on a semester basis, they do not fall under the category of F grade in the previous semester. IT is available for all graduates and PG programmes who hold a certificate of disability from the government of India. The amount available is Rs. 10,000.
Sports excellence
An amount of Rs. 16 lakhs 40 thousand is made available as tuition fees for the students who have represented any State in North East India in any major sports events. The scholarship is available for almost all the courses with various requirements for continuation.
Assistance programme
The Don Bosco University, Assam, has provided scholarships to 2361 with the help of various schemes under central and state governments under their assistance. They also have support from India and abroad who send their use for students. The total scholarship availed till now is Rs. 7.77 Crores under their assistance. Hostels: Separate hostel facilities for boys and girls at the Tapesia, Azhara, and Kharguli campuses. They are well-furnished and well-maintained rooms with high-speed internet and intranet services, 24x7 security services, and hygienic vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The Carreno hall is a boys' hostel managed and run by DBCET students by Don Bosco Society of Azhara. It is behind the Azhara campus with a separate compound wall. The Ferrando Hall is a girls' hostel managed and run by DBCET students of the Ferrando Development Educational Welfare Society. Located half a km away from the Azhara campus with its compound wall. Paying guests' facilities and accommodations are also provided.
Library: Full library access is provided through the online public access catalogue (OPAC). It can be accessed through all the campuses as e-resources. They provide inter-library loans on request, reference and lending services, library orientation, volunteer work, mobile library application, anti-plagiarism service, and much more.
