‘Whistling Woods International Institute for Films, Media, Animation, and Media Arts’ popularly called ‘Whistling Woods International’ is a private higher education institute. The campus of the Whistling Woods International is situated in Goregaon, a suburb lying in the northwest of Mumbai-India’s commercial capital. The institute enrolls students for a variety of profession-oriented programs including B. A. /B. Sc. (filmmaking and animation filmmaking), diploma in screenwriting, and PG diploma (media & entertainment/media & communication).
University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted recognition and TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) has awarded accreditation to the school. The campus of Whistling Woods International houses 10 schools of study including but not limited to ‘School of Filmmaking’, ‘School of Music’, ‘School of Fashion’, ‘School of Animation’, and ‘School of Media & Communication’. The institution has an enrollment of approximately 550 students and boasts of top-notch facilities.
Whistling Woods International is the brainchild of Subhash Ghai, a renowned film director and producer with many blockbusters to his credit. Subhash Ghai, the chairman of WWI, also owns Mukta Arts Ltd. and is the member of ‘United Producers Forum’ and ‘Executive Committee of Producers Guild of India’. He laid the foundations for Whistling Woods International, India’s first international film institute, in 2001.
The school became operational from 2006, registering students from across the country as well as international students for a range of programs. The syllabus of media studies course of CBSE higher secondary schools has been prepared by WWI. The institution made it to the list of ‘The best film schools in the world’ drawn up by The Hollywood Reporter in 2014.
The Skill Tree Knowledge Consortium accorded WWI the status of ‘global film institute’ in 2014. Meghna Ghai Puri, daughter of Subhash Ghai, who is the president of WWI, has hugely contributed towards boosting the school’s popularity by opening chapters in various parts of the country as well as abroad.
