The Pune Institute of Computer Technology has four distinct departments-First Year Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunications, and Information Technology. The Department of First Year Engineering furnishes robust foundation to all students who have registered for various engineering programs. During the first year of their respective engineering course, students gain theoretical knowledge about different science and engineering subjects.
During the first year, the students pick up the basics of engineering mathematics, engineering chemistry, and applied physics. They also learn the fundamentals of engineering mechanics, basic electrical engineering, problem solving, programming, environmental studies, engineering graphics, and much more. The department tries its level best to enable students to develop their personas to the fullest extent possible.
The Department of Electronics & Telecommunications which came up in the year offers the 4-year on-campus BE (electronics & telecommunications) program. This undergraduate engineering program which is approved by AICTE aims to create engineering graduates who can contribute towards the development of telecommunications and electronics engineering.
Firstly, the program aims to equip students with a robust grounding in engineering, scientific, and mathematical foundations. B.E. (EC &T) students become thoroughly prepared to stand out in their professional careers, specializing in electronics & telecommunication engineering. Once students complete this undergraduate course, they gain the proficiency of applying their engineering, mathematical, and science skills for solving complicated engineering problems.
They acquire the ability to assess, design, and apply their wisdom about electronics subsystems and communication systems. They also imbibe the skills for conducting modern-day engineering tests and capacity to integrate hardware and software systems. In order to qualify for the program the student has to clear 10+2 exam with mathematics and physics as mandatory subjects. The student also needs to achieve an aggregate score of minimum 50% marks in the higher secondary exam. The applicant also has to secure the cutoff score in the MH-CET entrance exam.
The Information Technology Department started offering B.E. (IT) course in the year 2001-2002. A competent team comprising twenty four professors and twelve technical employees keep the department functioning effectively from one year to the other. The BE (IT) course is a four year program approved and certified by AICTE.
The undergraduate course intends to transform students into efficient graduates with competency in mathematics and basic sciences. The IT graduates also achieve thorough capability in information technology, enabling them to develop solutions for IT issues. The basic eligibility criterions for this program are identical to those of BE (EC & T) course.
The Computer Engineering Department started registering students for the Masters of Engineering (CE) course from August 2000 onwards. The ME (computer engineering) program has a study period of two years and has the AICTE’s approval. In order to qualify for this postgraduate program in engineering, the student must possess a BE certification in IT or CS stream.
The candidate should also score at least 50% in aggregate in the final year BE examination conducted by an approved university. Those who have qualified in the GATE examination can also apply.
