Indira Gandhi National Tribal University [IGNTU], Amarkantak established in 2007 is a Central University, currently having 151-200 position in NIRF Ranking 2021. IGNTU Amarkantak is approved by UGC. Admission in Indira Gandhi National Tribal University is offered in Management, Humanities and Science at UG/ PG/ Diploma/ Doctorate level with scholarship benefits to deserving students.
Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Amarkantak was established following an act passed in the Parliament of India in 2007. The University started its academic session from July 2008 onwards. It is fully-funded by the Central Government and has jurisdiction over the entire nation. The University was declared “Central University” with the approval of UGC.
The University's prime objective is to provide higher education to the tribal people of India, however, the university is open to all. It aims to provide high-quality knowledge and research facilities in tribal art, culture, forest-based economic activities, languages, technological advancements, flora, fauna, and natural resources of the tribal areas in India.
Students are provided degrees to a number of UG, PG, Diploma, and Research courses like BA, B.Sc, BBA, BCA, B.Ed, B.Com (Hons), B.Voc, B.Pharm, MA, M.Sc, MBA, MCA, M.Com, Ph.D in different disciplines, and more. These courses operate under the following faculty heads:
Admission for undergraduate courses in the university are subject to the marks scored by the applicants in the qualifying exam, whereas for Postgraduate courses, admissions are through online entrance exams. Additionally, the maximum age to enroll for a master’s program should not exceed 27 years. However, 5 years relaxation in the upper age limit is given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD categories. The University has a Placement Cell which works through-out the year to shape students’ career. It conducts various activities to sharpen and polish soft skills, develop their personality, and instill leadership quality in its students. The Cell bridges the gap between potential recruiters and job seekers.
As a result of the constant efforts of the Cell, many companies have shown interest in recruiting candidates for different positions for their companies. The recent recruiters of the university are Travel Triangle, Ritual Holidays, Ecowin Travels, Bloonimboo voyages, etc.
The University campus is 22 kms away from Pendra Road Railway Station and the main Amarkantak town is 25 kms away from the campus. Students are provided a 24 hours internet access. A well-established NKN centre is present in the campus that includes a high-speed internet lab and video conferencing room. An Innovation Club is also present in the campus to explore innovative ideas.
