Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University - HNGU Patan was formed as a result of the bifurcation of the Gujarat University. It was established with the passing of the North Gujarat University Act No.22 of 1986 on 11^th September 1986. Currently the university encompasses five districts namely, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Aravalli, Sabarkantha, and Patan. It is approved by UGC as a State University and is approved by NAAC with “A” grade. It was set to impart education primarily to the rural people as geographically the university is surrounded by few towns only. Currently there are over 500 colleges or institutes affiliated with the university.

Vision: The State University functions with a vision to inculcate values of equality, unity, and justice by disbursing high quality and socially relevant education, so as to make its students conscious about their duties and rights.

Mission: HNGU works with an aim of overall development of its students by providing them with knowledge, skill, and character leading to their contribution in development of the nation. It also drives its efforts to equip aptitudes and skills among its students to make them ready to face the challenges of changing society.

Various courses at UG, PG, M.Phil, and Doctorate level are offered by the university in more than 500 colleges and institutes affiliated to it. Of the many courses offered by the university, some of them are M.A, B.Com, MBA, BBA, MCA, M.Sc, BSW, MSW, B.P.Ed, M.P.Ed, MUMC, PGDMLT, LLM, etc. Students can look up the complete list of the courses on the authentic website of the university.

Admission to the university is based on academic qualifications and norms laid down by NCTE, UGC, Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, and the Government of Gujarat from time to time. Students seeking admission to the university must fill the application form for the respective course which can be obtained either from the official website of the university or by visiting the campus. The application form must be accompanied with the following original documents:

• Migration Certificate
• Passing Certificate
• Certificate of Marks
• Provisional Eligibility Certificate

Some other documents may also be asked from the student depending on the condition and as per the requirements of the university.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D course is Master’s degree with minimum 55% in the concerned subject. 5% relaxation in marks is given to SC / ST / SEBC with non creamy layer / EWS and persons with more than 40% disability. They must also qualify in the entrance exam conducted by the university, however candidates who have passed GATE / UGC-NET / CSIR (NET) / SET / and M.Phil are exempted from the entrance test obligation.

Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University campus students benefit from the number of scholarships provided by the university. The University particularly provides State Government and Central Government scholarships available on Digital Gujarat Portal and National Scholarship Portal respectively. The amount of scholarship is directly transferred to the beneficiaries account on a condition that they meet the eligibility requirements for the particular scholarship.
