There are four hostels for boys, and nine for girls, at the Himachal Pradesh University. These accommodate around 972 female students and 567 male students. Himachal Pradesh University hostel allotments as on merit-basis that is supervised by the respective departments from various fields. However, the Chief Warden retains full rights to admission to the university dorms.
Each hostel includes a Warden and office personnel who are in charge of overseeing daily operations and ensuring that everything runs smoothly. The prefects are chosen out of the senior students to assist the Hostel Warden in maintaining the discipline at the hostel. The Chief Security Officer is accountable for any security related matters in the hostels.

Himachal Pradesh University hostel creates a safe environment for students. There are security guards and CCTV cameras everywhere. One needs to undergo a checking at the gate which is mandatory to enter the campus. There haven't been any security lapses in the past. Leaving the hostel grounds requires the administrators' permission. Male guests are only permitted to meet their known in the visiting room during the designated hours.

The final day of the hosteller’s exams is the official date to vacate the hostel. Within 72 hours of the end of their exam, each hosteller must vacate their room. Overstaying will result in a daily fine or, if necessary, disciplinary action will be taken.
The Supervisor can permit the scholars and postgraduate students working during the breaks to stay at the hostel. International students who are not in their last year of study at the university may be permitted to spend the summer at the hostel.
The sitting area, reading room, dining room, and kitchen areas are all no-smoking zones.
Each resident must ensure to keep the furniture allotted to them safely. It is not permitted to shift furniture from one room to another.
Property damage to hostels is an offense. Any hosteller found responsible for destroying hostel property may face disciplinary action.
Gambling, using intoxicating substances, and having weapons on hostel property, especially inside rooms, are strictly forbidden.
The boys’ hostels’ gates close at 10:00 PM and re-opens at 5:00 AM.
A resident must inform the Warden about their absence from the hostel. They must sign the register at the hostel gate while entering and existing the premises.
Writing on walls and sticking posters are not allowed.
The way hostellers interact with one another should be polite. It is best to avoid disputes or disagreements with each other.
No visitors are permitted to spend the night at the hostel. Under specific circumstances, in case of girls’ hostel visitors, they may, however, be accommodated in the guest rooms, if available and will be charged. The stay, however, cannot extend for more than three days.
