Murshidabad University Berhampore was formed with the passing of the West Bengal Act 18 in the West Bengal Legislature in the year 2018 and started functioning in the year 2021. The University is the up-gradation of one of the oldest colleges, Krishnath College, set up by the Government of West Bengal under East India Company on 18^th November 1853. The educational hub since then has an intact heritage and currently working as a State University with the approval of UGC. It is also accredited by NAAC.

Mission: The University is working on a mission to empower the society via educating the students to impact the world positively. It also aims to defeat the backwardness by disseminating quality education in the field of Science, Arts, and Commerce.

Murshidabad University is providing degrees to postgraduate courses like M.A, M.Sc, and LL.M in various disciplines including History, Botany, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Physics, Political Sciences, Sericulture, Geography, Arabic, English, Philosophy, Chemistry, etc. These courses are headed in 18 departments and the details of each of the courses are mentioned on the certified portal of the university.

Candidates passing their Honors in the last two preceding years are eligible to fill up the application form for Master’s degree courses available on the official website of the university. No application fee is charged by the management. However, students seeking admission must first consider the eligibility requirements as per the course they prefer to pursue. Selection of the candidates is strictly on the basis of the marks secured by them in Honors or equivalent exams. In case there is a tie, 12^th class and 10^th class marks are considered to break the tie. Moreover, seats are reserved for the reserved category applicants in each department. Candidates should be aware that the admission granted will be canceled if he/she has hidden, suppressed or distorted any information in their application form.

The University believes that education is the right to everyone and no one shall be deprived of it due to insufficient monetary resources. Hence, various scholarships like Swami Vivekananda Merit-Cum Means Scholarship, Kanyashree Prakalp, and more are availed by the eligible university students. Meritorious students who fulfills the below criteria are eligible to be awarded for the Swami Vivekananda Merit-Cum Means Scholarship.

• Pass UG or Intermediate exam with not less than 60% marks.
• Annual family income should not exceed Rs. 250,000.
• He / She must be a West Bengal resident.
• Not availing any other Government scholarship.
