Sardar Patel University Mandi

Sardar Patel University abbreviated as SPU Mandi was recently established in the year 2022 with jurisdiction over five districts of Himachal Pradesh including Kullu, Mandi, Chamba, Lahaul and Spiti, and Kangra. Currently 119 colleges and institutions are affiliated with the university, offering various UG, PG, and Research programs with regional courses to be introduced soon. The University is approved by UGC with a State University status.

Vision: The University works with a vision of becoming a center of academic excellence by disseminating knowledge to all the sections of society for the economic and social transformation of the people of state and nation.

Mission: It aims to produce human resources by providing multifaceted and integral education with high morals, values and ethics for the improvement of the social, cultural, and economic life of the people.

The University is the second state university in Himachal Pradesh that aspires to make learning a pleasing experience by providing degrees to various programs at PG and Doctorate level. The multiple courses offered by the SPU include M.Sc, M.A, MBA, MCA, in different disciplines like Environmental Science, Physics, Zoology, Public Administration, Geoinformatics, Chemistry, Botany, History, and more.

Admissions to the SPU to all the postgraduate courses except M.Sc (Industrial Chemistry) and M.Sc (Geoinformatics) are subject to the common entrance exam conducted by the Himachal Pradesh University, academic performance in the qualifying exam, availability of seats in the particular colleges or institutes, and as per the Reservation Policy of the state. However, admissions to M.Sc (Industrial Chemistry) are based on the entrance exam administered by the SPU itself and admissions to M.Sc (Geoinformatics) are on the grounds of the merit list which is prepared separately for subsidised and non-subsidised seats.

Desired students who want to enroll in the university must confirm the eligibility criteria before filling the application form for the entrance test. Below table shows the qualifications and conditions required for admission to some of the degree courses provided by the university.

Age Criteria: The upper age limit for boys is 26 years and for girls is 28 years for the candidates belonging to SC and ST class. Relaxation of up to six months in the maximum age limit can be permitted by the Vice chancellor of the University for which the reason is to be given in writing. There is no age bar for Defense personnel candidates.

To enroll for doctorate courses students should have a Master’s degree with minimum 55% score in aggregate or its equivalent grade. 5% relaxation is allowed for SC / ST applicants. Ph.D admission in the university depends upon the availability of Research Supervisors, scholar teacher ratio, infrastructure facilities and the academic performance of the candidates.
