Kerala Agricultural University [KAU], Thrissur established in 1971 is a State University, currently having 151-200 position in NIRF Ranking 2024. KAU Thrissur is approved by ICAR and UGC. Admission in Kerala Agricultural University is offered in Engineering, Management and Science at UG/ PG/ Diploma/ Doctorate level with scholarship benefits to deserving students.
Kerala Agricultural University - KAU Thrissur was founded in the year 1971 and started its academic curriculum from 1st February, 1972. The University has eight colleges which offer numerous programs under the faculties of Agriculture, Forestry, and Agricultural Engineering. KAU Thrissur is approved by ICAR. The jurisdiction of the university spreads over the entire state of Kerala.
Vision: KAU was set-up with a vision to transform the agricultural sector for the growth of Kerala's economy through qualified human resources imbibed with requisite skills and adept at technology.
Mission: The University works for sustainable agriculture development to provide livelihood security to the farmers by achieving excellence in agricultural education, research and extension.
KAU Thrissur in its eight colleges and an institute runs several UG, PG, Diploma, and Doctorate courses such as B.Sc, B.Tech, M.Sc, M.Tech, Ph.D programs in different disciplines are run by the university. The colleges and the institute:
Admissions to UG programs are through the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), KEAM, by ICAR and the Government of Kerala. Allotments of the seats are based on the rank scored by the applicants in NEET (for 85% seats) and AIEEA-UG rank list (For 15% seats). Admissions to the Master's program are based on the ICAR AIEEA - PG 2022 Rank list for 30% seats filled by ICAR.
The mode of selection for MBA in Agri-business is different from the above-mentioned selection mode. KAU and ICAR admits students to the MBA program based on the marks scored in KMAT/CAT/CMAT entrance exams followed by group discussion and personal interview round of selection. 30% of the seats to the Ph.D courses are filled based on the marks scored by the candidates in ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF (Ph.D) exams. Students for Diploma and PG Diploma programs are selected through Entrance Examination conducted by the university.
In addition to qualifying in the above exams, students must fulfill the academic qualifications for the course they want to apply for. The qualifications and eligibility for undergraduate programs are prescribed by CEE, Kerala for Medical and Allied courses or Engineering. Note: The minimum OGPA / Percentage mandated in the qualifying exams for the PG courses mentioned above is 6.50 on a scale of 10 or 55 per cent. In case of SC / ST / PwD candidates, it is 6.00 on a scale of 10 or 50 per cent.
KAU students are granted several scholarships like Post Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, Central Sector Scholarship, National Overseas Scholarship, etc. Moreover, SC / ST category students are granted financial assistance from the Scheduled Caste/Tribe Development Department of the university. Candidates belonging to other backward classes who meet the eligibility criteria are granted KPCR scholarships.

There are separate Placement Cells in all the colleges of the university. The Cell drives its efforts to provide suitable job opportunities for their students. It conducts several training programs on personality development, career guidance, skill upgradation, etc to prepare its students to cope with the changing marketing conditions.
Most of the alumni of KAU are employed in well-known companies/industries like Kerala Agro Industries Corporation, Regional Agro Industrial Development Corporation (RAIDCO), State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Reserve Bank of India, Federal Bank, Indian Railways, Samsung, Sitaram Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Reliance Retail, Manappuram Finance, Big Bazaar, etc.
Apart from the excellent placement record of the university, many of the university students are pursuing higher education in prestigious universities/institutions abroad and in India as well.
The infrastructure of all the campuses of the university is designed in a way to provide a lively and efficient learning atmosphere to its students. KAU students can avail a number of facilities present in its various campuses located at Padannakkad, Vellayani, Wayanad, Vellanikkara, Pattambi, and Tavanur. The main campus of the university is at Vellanikkara in Thrissur district. There are laboratories, computer centre, and smart classrooms in all the campuses. The campuses are surrounded with gardens and lakes adding more to the architectural beauty of the university campuses, and at the same time, students get to learn in a serene and natural environment.
