IIT Madras Hostel Fees: Rooms, Food & Rules

I will say Hostel facilities are average at IIT Madras, same like any other government college. In first year you get triple sharing rooms, then in 2nd year you get double sharing rooms and third year onwards you get single sharing rooms but washrooms are shared throughout 4 or 5 years. Hostels do have common rooms and play rooms. Some of the hostels have gym also. Mess facilities are not in the hostel but in the separate common buildings, you fill your preference each month. Yes, the hostels are there. The fresher's hostel is the best in our campus and it’s really good as they renovated it recently. But unfortunately, from the 2nd year, the hostels are really bad, no proper renovation all buildings are like 50 years old. There is no proper renovation every year. There are good activities given as there are tier hostel tournaments and sports facility are really good, the gym is provided.Read Full Review

In 1st year, generally freshers do live in Mandakini hostel which is one of the biggest and beautiful hostels of IIT Madras. I was there last year. My experience was awesome; I have many reasons like good roommates, cleanliness, anti-suicide net, a long corridor, and 24x7 electricity and water supply.Read Full Review
