Indian Institute of Management Kolkata famously known as IIM Calcutta is an Autonomous University established in 1961 under a joint venture of the Government of India, School of Management (MIT), West Bengal Government, and The Ford Foundation and Indian industry. It is the first national institute offering Master’s and Research courses in Management. The institute is approved by UGC and is accredited by AACSB, Equis, and Association of MBAs.

The academic programs at IIM Calcutta include MBA, MBA Executive, and Master’s in International Management (CEMS MIM). The Collaborative programs run by the institute include Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) and Post Graduate Program for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX-VLM).
The basis of selection of students for the MBA program at IIM Calcutta is the performance of the candidates in the CAT exam, followed by Group Discussions, Interview and overall Work experience. The shortlisting criteria for candidates to the PGDBA course is PGDBA entrance exam scores, personal interview, marks obtained in 12th class, and work experience. For admissions to Ph.D courses, candidates are required to submit their CAT scores, if not CAT, the other entrance exams considered in lieu of CAT are GMAT, GRE, GATE, UGC-JRF, and UGC-NET. In addition to these criteria, reservation criteria of the Government of India are followed by the institute to admit students to all the programs.

The present campus of the university was established in 1975 on 135 acres of land at Diamond Harbour Road, Joka, Kolkata. The seven lakes surrounding the campus give a pleasing sight to everyone. The infrastructure of the campus supports the teaching and learning activities of the students. It is updated frequently to cope with the changing demands of education. The administrative and academic buildings house classrooms of different sizes and seating capacity. Apart from this, there are conference rooms, faculty and staff offices, lounges, and a business library in the administrative and academic buildings. The Tata Hall set-up in the campus provides accommodation to the Executive Management Development Program. It has 56 rooms, 4 suites, and 3 conference rooms. There’s a stupa shaped building in the campus known as ‘Management Centre for Human Values’ which provides deep study and understanding of philosophy.
