Miranda House College, New Delhi was established in the year 1948 as a Public Educational Institution, currently having 2nd position in NIRF Ranking 2024. Miranda House Delhi was founded by British academic administrator, lawyer, and judge in the year 1948. The college is Delhi University college for women and the current principal of the college is Dr. Bijaylaxmi Nanda. The college’s strength is 3000 and has staff of over 300 people. The college offers, Arts & Science courses with over 100 specializations. The college is located in North Campus of DU. To get to the college, one can use Yellow Metro Line metro station,Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro Station. Since, the college houses many outsiders, the nearest railway station from the college is New Delhi Railway Station which is 8 kms from the college. The college was a residence house and therefore the college is named Miranda House.
The college was designed by British architect Walter Sykes George. The Miranda House campus is one of the most beautiful campuses of DU and therefore the main building of the college is declared a national asset and is called ‘Heritage Building’. The main vision of Miranda House College is empowering women. To make sure their vision is followed a Women’s Development Cell has been put in order where girls studying can put up all their problems and they are solved upfront. To educate the girls, the cell continuously organizes certificate course on “Women and Law” for three days. Apart from that, the college also conducts workshops, guest lectures, discussions on sensitive issues, and documentary films.
The College offers around 40 courses that include B.A., B.Sc., M.A., M.Sc., and B.El.Ed. Not many colleges of DU provide Bachelor in Elementary Education, but Miranda House College does. Apart from this, the college also offers various Certificate Courses in prominent foreign languages such as German, French, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese. The most defining course of the university though is a Certificate Course for Visually Challenged Studentson Computer Applications.
Miranda House admissions are purely based on merit as the cut-off for BA (Hons) is around 95% and in second drive students with around 90% get admissions to the college. For B.A. in languages, the cut-off is between 60 to 75%. For B.Sc (Hons.) is 98% for general category students and for reserved category students its 87 percentile. Miranda House College courses are five but if specializations are included it cross the mark of 40 courses because some single and dual specialization courses are also offered by the college. There’s no particular Miranda House College application form as the students seeking admissions to this college has to fill University of Delhi centralized application form.
Miranda House Scholarship programs are different as two students from each department are awarded with an award and some money. Academic Merit is the only way to win those awards. Apart from maintaining attendance and marks, the students should have participated in at least two extracurricular activities. One of the top awards awarded is the University Ranker Awards as the top three rankers of North Campus are given a cash prize of INR 2500 and a certificate of merit. B.A. (H) Political Science is one of the most decorated courses of the college and the college topper of this program gets a cash reward of INR 5000 and a certificate of merit. Likewise, there are many such awards like Uma Shankar Excellence Award, Jamuna Devi Chopra Memorial Award, Zakia Pathak Award, and Prem Gulati Memorial Award to name a few. Apart from this, financial assistance is provided to the needy students and the criteria of that varies as along with academic acumen the students also have to provide their family income proofs.

Miranda House placement cell is quite an active body and responds to student’s queries are upfront. Students of the college are provided best internship opportunities and the larger picture of the cell though is to provide the best job opportunities. The college students of Miranda House College are referred as the Mirandians. Mirandians have always been favourites of the industries as the college has formed good connections with some of the top names in the corporate world and more importantly the placement cell is quite inclusive too. The placement cell of the college helps the recruiters meet the able students who can add value to their organizations. The placement cell actively organizes mock interviews, training sessions, and seminars so that students of the college are well prepared for the placements. The college enjoys a successful placement ratio as the Mirandians manage to get jobs in quality companies like HDFC Bank, Google, KPMG, Deloitte, E&Y, Maruti, Jaypee, etc.
If there’s an adjective that can make justice with the infrastructure of Miranda House College than that is well-resourced. The college provides top-class facilities to their students. The hostel of the college is one of the best in DU. A unique quadrangle shaped hostel is surrounded by some beautiful gardens. The palm trees form the pathway to the hostel. The hostel mess is also hygienic as outsiders have hardly complaint about the food quality or the cleanliness at the mess.
The college is known as a red house due to its red-bricked walls. Apart from walls, the cool and long corridors add up to ornamental beauty of the college. For the campus as a whole “lush green” adjective might look an understatement. One of the greatest initiatives that the college has taken is by developing a building for visually challenged kids and the building is called the Amba Dalmia Digital Resource Centre. Another master piece of the infrastructure is the seminar hall of the collegeas it is equipped with wall mounted speakers, high-quality sound system, roving mics, conference table mics, and lapel mics. A recording system has also been installed at the seminar hall as most programs that happen there are recorded.
The college gives a lot of importance to sports as girls have brought laurels to our country in various fields. Miranda House College has one of the biggest sports grounds in North Campus. Besides that, the college has two lawn tennis courts and a Basketball Court. Girls have move towards fitness more than the men and therefore the college has built a Fitness Centre for fitness enthusiasts which is loaded with cardio training and weight lifting equipment. The MHC cafeteria has a very high sanitation protocols and it provides some of the best dishes and beverages at subsidized rates to its students. Since, health is first, the college has a medical unit running on the college and is available 24×7.
