Bengaluru Central University is presently known as Bengaluru City University. It is a state public university located at Dr Ambedkar Veedhi Road, Bangalore, Karnataka. Bangalore University got divided into three branches and got renamed in the year 2020. It started in the year 1858 by the British and is a 160-year-old university which started with just 43 students and has been known as the torchbearers of knowledge ever since. The campus stands tall over a land of 33 acres. It boasts of architectural heritage and lush greenery. Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot is the honourable Governor of the university. S. Japhet was the first Vice-Chancellor and Mr. Narasimha Murthy replaced him in the year 2020 and has been working as an interim Vice Chancellor until Prof. Lingaraj Gandhi got appointed and filled in the honourable position of Vice Chancellor in April 2021.

The courses offered are UG, PG, Global Language studies, MBA- AICTE Approved, PhD, Certificate and Diploma courses. The required marks for admissions in general merit out of 100 are 54 percentile, for SC category it is 38 out of 98.8 percentile and 51 out of 95.8 percentile for ST category. The university has something new to offer for all the aspiring law students which is a five-year full-time BA, LLB course and for many other courses like MBA, ME and BE the admissions will be done based on the entrance exam courses at national, state and university level. The UG courses under the university determine admission based on the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) which is prepared by the UGC. The admissions under Bangalore University are based both on Entrance and Merit.

• The eligibility to enroll under the B.Tech program is based on the scores achieved during the examination followed by a counseling session. The eligibility to enroll also remains open to JEE Main qualified students.
• The enrolment of the M.Tech program is also determined based on merit but more preference is provided to the candidates who are GATE qualified.
• The enrolment in the B.Ed program is based on the scores achieved during the Pre-Teachers Entrance Test which is held by the university.
• The enrolment for M.Phil and PhD is determined by the scores obtained during the entrance exam which is organized by the university and then is followed by an interview.
• The candidates who are CSIR NET/UGC NET/GATE qualified or any other courses which are equivalent to the mentioned examinations then they are not asked to go through the entrance exams held by the university.
• The candidates who have obtained marks in CAT/ATMA/MAT/JMET/PGCET or any other equivalent tests are also not asked to apply for the entrance examinations held by the university.
• The examinations for admission under the UG and PG programs are followed by counseling sessions held by the university.

A variety of other courses like Science, Commerce, Law, Engineering, humanities, social sciences and teaching and education are offered directly by the main campus of Bangalore University and all the colleges that are affiliated with it.

• The students of Karnataka who belong to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled tribe are eligible for Post-Metric Scholarships under the Government of India. If the annual income of the parents of the SC or ST students who are studying under affiliated government colleges within Karnataka is less than 2.5 lacs then those students can apply for the Day Scholarships or Hostel Scholarships that are provided by the Social Welfare Department.
• The candidates who are below the poverty line and have ranked between 1^st to 5^thpositions are offered the Honourable Vice Chancellor Merit Scholarship. The amount offered for the scholarship is Rs. 500 per month and it will be provided for 10 months every academic year during the course.
• The families who have a single girl child or twin daughters are eligible to apply for the Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship of University the Grants Commission (UGC). Any eligible candidate needs to apply online for this scholarship.
