Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences was established in 1993. It provides higher education and emphasises on the mental, spiritual, and physical well being of the students. The University focuses on research and innovation and empowers the individuals to become global leaders. It is the first University exclusively for tribal students. In the year 2017, it was granted the status of Deemed to be University and is approved by UGC.

KISS has a Training and Placement Cell which aims to establish a support system to explore opportunities for the individuals with an aim of promoting economic empowerment and inclusion of tribal communities. The Cell is committed to equip the students with soft and technical skills catering to the requirements of the industry. It mentors, guides, assists, and supports the students and bridges the gap between academic qualifications and industrial requirements. The Cell provides training, cultivates industry-academia partnerships, and conducts recruitment drives, job fairs, career development programs, etc. for the students. It also prepares the students for competitive examinations.
KISS provides a well developed and well organised campus and facilities to the students.
