Swami Vivekananda University [SVU], Kolkata established in 2019 is a Private University. SVU Kolkata is approved by AICTE and UGC. SVU, more commonly known as Swami Vivekananda University, is a university situated in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was built in the year 2019 by the Swami Vivekananda Group of Institutions and it is run as a Private University educational institute that provides higher education to students in the fields of Engineering, life science & allied health sciences, humanities, and management. Both the All India Council of Technical Education and The UGC have affiliated SVU. Admissions at the Swami Vivekananda University Kolkata are purely based on merits and no donation fee is accepted for admissions to any of the courses of the university.
Dr. Nandan Gupta is the Honourable chancellor of the university and Professor Subrata Kumar Dey serves as the Vice Chancellor. The daily operations are taken care of by Mr. Saurabh Adhikari who is the Chief Operations Officer of the University. Mr. Subhasis Mazumdar is the General Manager of the institute while Mr. Tanmoy Mazumdar serves as the Deputy Registrar of the University. Located near the junction point Wireless more of Barasat-Barrackpore and Kalyani Expressway in Barrackpore township, in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, Swami Vivekananda University is only a 1.30-hour drive from the main city of Kolkata and only 15kms from the Netaji Subhas International Airport. It has excellent rail and road connectivity from Kolkata’s heartland. The campus is spread across a sprawling 12 acres of land and is quite an attraction for students joining here.
Swami Vivekananda University admission process is quite easy and based on merit. Admission inquiry can take place in two ways. They are: -
Walk-in application - The students who want to get admission to the university can directly visit the university and go through the walk-in inquiry process about the entire admission process. The faculty members and the counselors are always there to guide the students about the whole admission process and also help students with the choice of subject and fee structure and the pre-requisites required for their desired stream. The counselors also take the initiative to take the students on a campus tour which helps the applicants to get a better overview of the laboratories and classrooms.
Online application – Swami Vivekananda University Kolkata admission form can be submitted online as well! The students can visit the official website of the University, from where they can directly apply for their preferred stream. The counselors would get back to the students in a couple of days regarding the inquiry after which they would be taken through the process via a scheduled phone or zoom call.
The students who have cleared either WBJEE/CET/MAT/CAT exams and also, met the cut-off marks of the college can apply to their preferred streams either through online or offline processes. The University charges a nominal fee of Rs. 500/- only for the admission process.
International students who wish to apply for any course in the university must clear their respective 10+2 classes with aggregate marks of 35%. If the application is accepted by the University then, the student can apply for a Students Visa. The University helps the applying international candidates with the Visa process and paperwork.
The SVU provides various government-affiliated scholarships such as Swami Vivekananda Merit-Cum- means Scholarship (SVMCM), Oasis Scholarship, National Scholarship, etc. Students with 90% marks in their 10+2 exams are eligible for the scholarship exams. Those who are eligible and willing to apply for the scholarships need to sit for a scholarship test. If they pass the exam, then they will be eligible for the scholarship program, provided the University criteria are met. Students who are chosen for the scholarship have to pay a nominal tuition fee every semester, apart from that most of the expense is covered in the scholarship itself.

The Swami Vivekananda University placement cell is very active, which helps all the students in building their careers and choosing the right opportunity when it arrives. The personnel involved in the placement cell trains all the students for their interviews with leading companies in the industry. Some of the big shot companies which hold campus interviews in SVU are Infosys, Wipro, TCS, IBM, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, Amazon, Oracle, Sutherland, BYJU’s, Godrej, Promex, Agro Vet, Knorr, Coca Cola, Red bull etc. 100% placement is guaranteed by the university provided the students have cleared all their semester exams and do not have any backlog at the time of appearing for the interview. Placement generally starts from the 6th semester onwards for the Graduate students pursuing a 4-year course and from the 4th semester onwards for the students who have taken up a 3-year graduate course. The students who are pursuing their Master’s courses are eligible for placements on and after their 2nd semesters. The students enrolled in the engineering courses get the most number of offers and the management students are entitled to the highest individual offers.
