In 1986 National Law School of India University was set up in Bangalore to provide students with legal education so that they can contribute to transforming the Indian legal system. This University is approved by UGC and accredited by BCI.
Its vision is to consistently put efforts to push for conceptual modification in the stream of legal education. For this purpose, it develops a curriculum that consists of the highest educational standards and provides students with a socially significant learning experience.

Admission to different courses at the University is based on the All-India National Law School Admission Test.
Students are assisted by NLSIU to apply for different types of Scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal. They can apply for the scholarships based on their eligibility. The University also offers State Scholarships that students can see on their State Scholarship portals. Some Private Scholarships are also available at the University for eligible students.

The Career and Placement Officer appointed at NLSIU is responsible for managing the administration of placements and internships to satisfy the needs of students. The officer also stays connected with firms, lawyers, judiciary, and other experienced personalities to organise strategic activities like panel discussions, workshops, guest lectures, etc. for students.
Companies that visit the campus for recruitment are Ernst & Young, Deloitte, KPMG International Limited, PricewaterhouseCoopers International Limited, Uber, Genpact, etc.
The key purpose of NLSIU is to provide students with a diverse and vibrant academic environment wherein they benefit, both inside and outside of the classrooms. The 23+ acres campus of the University consists of a library, academic blocks, gym amenities, hostels, a healthcare centre, discussion rooms, and other spaces for conducting academic and cultural activities. The classrooms of the University can accommodate around 80 to 120 students each. Students have power supply access at their desks.
