The academics here were mostly off-campus from the second year as we had no business in just reading books and understanding. To understand the knowhow of journalism, we were sent to ground and because we were from Delhi, we had an added advantage. When I was doing internship with Republic Channel, I was sent to their Delhi office as I was asked to complete my internship over there. The six months with a reputed news channel helped me understand how news are put into action and most importantly how to put the filters because one can’t be blunt in this business. So, academics here were different but I loved the way it was.

The first year was when we were cooked to the core because from print media to other aspects of learning, we learned them all. Second year, we had to choose our specializations and I chose print media. The final year was a long internship program as we had to choose from the range of subjects like crime, sports, politics, and others to excel in that particular department. Being a huge fan of cricket and especially MS Dhoni, I decided to take up sports and see how players are being interviewed and what exactly is printed. I am not supposed to say more on that but ACJ provided us opportunity to join seniors of our intern groups to the players press conferences and how to take inputs from there and then create a story that would sell. So, academics taught us, how news is created and how it is sold.

Although the ACJ only offered print journalism at the start, today it offers several streams. It offers MA in journalism with specializations in four streams, including print, business, television, and radio. I opted for business and since then, had never looked back. At ACJ, the course is divided into trimesters. And as a student, I learned about the basics of each stream, during the first trimester. From the second trimester onwards, we are encouraged to pick any one stream, from print to media. It was an enthralling experience and I certainly managed to learn the best, from ACJ. Today, it has gained a reputation as one of the best journalism schools, all over India. The college certainly has a great curriculum but what still stands fresh in my mind, is that as students, we were often encouraged to practice what we learned, in real-time. I as well as the others had to develop news items, on a daily basis, it certainly came in handy. I would rank ACJ 9/10 on academics.
