B. Pharm is a four-year regular course in the field of medicines and drugs used in healthcare industries. The curriculum includes study in three disciplines Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry, and Pharmacy Practice. There is a broad scope for career and numerous opportunities in the field of pharmacy. Many upcoming pharmaceutical companies open vacancies for Pharmacy candidates and recruit them in large numbers. There are vacancies even in the government or public sector institutes for pharmacy graduates. The candidates can quickly get jobs in colleges and universities, government departments, pharmaceutical industries, hospitals, investigation and research institute, etc.
Pharmacists can also practice in community pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, extended care facilities, and regulatory agencies. The department of sales and marketing also hires a large number of pharmacy graduates. One can also work in the retail store of medicine, after registering with State Pharmacy Council.
The eligibility criteria for taking admission into the course are that the candidate should have passed 10+2 or an equivalent exam by a government recognized university. Diploma in Pharmacy is a regular two-year full-time course offered by the university. Rajasthan University of Health Sciences approves the course. The diploma course includes rich knowledge in the field of types of drugs, composition, manufacturing process, and properties. The tasks of a pharmacist include checking prescriptions, dispensing medications, compounding, advice dosage and directions to patients, maintaining and checking drug store inventory, etc.
There is a broad scope for career and job opportunities for pharmacists in India. A student can opt for further studies and take admission to Postgraduate or doctorate courses. After that, they can build up their careers in the field of research. A candidate is eligible for the diploma course in pharmacy after completing 10+2 with Science stream (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/ Biology) from a government recognized board or university. The minimum percentage required can be anywhere between 45-60%. For pursuing the course, a candidate’s minimum age should be 17 years old.
