The Bombay Flying Club is a private institute that came into existence in the year 1928 to provide quality education in the field of Science, Engineering, and Aviation. It is affiliated to University of Mumbai and approved by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Since its inception, the institution is playing an excellent role in the field of aviation in India. It has a fleet of Cessna 152A, PIPER PA 18, Cessna 172R, Cessna 172, Single, and twin-engine aircraft. The institute also has Elite, a synthetic simulator approved by DGCA that is used for flying training.
This aviation center is present at the western edge of Juhu aerodrome that is nearby the center of the Mumbai. The Bombay Flying Club is a training center that meets the standards of convenience and comfort. The adequate space available facilitates students in every aspect and they can pay attention to theoretical and practical aspects. This flying club is known for its professionalism. There is a well-trained aircrew working as engineers and captains for international and domestic airlines such as Air India, Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Sahara, Emirates, Singapore Airlines as well as many of the engineers and private pilot.
In this institute, the eminent personality Late Mr. J.R.D Tata was the first person who got the pilot license in the year 1929. It is the world’s only flying club that undertook International flight from Mumbai to London and came back with tiger Moths in the 1930s. The first women pilot Mrs. Rabia Futehally has obtained the Pilot license from this institution. She is now a member of the managing committee of the Bombay Flying Club.
R. Levy, a member of this flying club, has manufactured an aircraft named Monsoon that flew over fifty hours. The Rev. Father Constantine was another member who flew illuminated aircraft for the first time. The Flying Club comprises of the well-equipped library with an air-conditioning facility. There are varieties of books related to the aviation sector for student’s reference. Some books are available free of cost for the students.
Institute offers different courses in aviation. Admission in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) course is based on merit.
