National Institute of Virology was established at Pune in 1952 as Virus Research Centre. Initially the institute was funded by ICMR and Rockefeller Foundation (RF), USA. However, in 1978, the institute emphasised on self-reliance and acquired its status of national importance. This college offers M.Sc Virology Program, Ph.D programs in subjects like Biotechnology, Basic Medical Science, Microbiology, and Zoology.
Vision: The main motive of NIV Pune is to apply high-quality research in the areas of immunology, and vaccinology to reduce peoples suffering caused by viral diseases.
Mission: Using latest technologies and scientific methods, the institute aims to provide knowledge, data-bases, and proper management strategies to control diseases and importance of public health.
