Bihar Institute of Law was founded by the Law Society of Bihar in January 1984. The main objective of the college is to impart quality legal education and produce responsible citizens so that they can contribute to the development of the legal system in India.
The college is affiliated to the Patliputra University, and recognised by the Bar Council of India. The college also has been approved by the Bihar Government. The courses available at the college are B.A.LL.B and LL.B at the UG level. Students can also take admission into the LL.M program offered at the PG level.
The college offers a 5-year integrated course and a 3-year general course in the field of law namely B.A.LL.B and LL.B respectively. Along with this, LL.M PG program is offered for a duration of 2 years. The eligibility criteria for these mentioned programs are tabulated below:

*For SC/ ST and OBC candidates, the minimum qualifying marks for admission into the UG programs will be 40% and 42% respectively.
*Students have to appear for an entrance test conducted by the Bihar Institute of Law and qualify with valid scores.
Admission Process
The admission process of the college includes entrance tests and counselling sessions conducted by the university. It is compulsory for the students to have appeared for the BILAT exam. To apply for the exam, please follow the steps mentioned below:
On a notified date, the institute will publish the merit list of the candidates who have qualified for the BILAT. Further, students have to enroll for the admission through the Patliputra University website. Once the portal opens, students have to register themselves for the counselling procedure. Given below are the steps to secure a seat at the college:
After submitting the online application form, the university will publish merit lists containing the names of the selected candidates. The counselling is conducted in 3 rounds. However, in case of any vacant seats, the university conducts a spot admission round.
To finalise the admission, students whose name reflects in the merit list, must download the offer letter, and physically report at the college. After verification of documents, and payment of tuition fee, students will be granted admission.
Bihar Institute of Law is located at Khajpura, only half an hour away from the main city of Bihar, Patna. Initially, the building of the college was located within the campus of Miller School. Later on, it was shifted to its own building at Raja Bazar, Ashiana More, Patna.
The infrastructural facilities available at the college are a well-equipped library with curriculum and reference books, hostel for girls, separate common room for girls and boys, free legal counselling and legal aid, and a moot court for students to gain hands-on experience and sharpen the skills of advocacy.
