SRM University Kattankulathur

SRM University Kattankulathur Campus is a ‘deemed to be university’. It was set up in 1985 in Kanchipuram, 40 km away from Chennai. It got deemed to have university status in the year 2002. The university has five campuses in the state of Tamil Nadu, and SRM KTR Campus is the main campus. It was accredited by NAAC with the highest A++ grade in 2018. It offers NBA-accredited courses at the UG level. It is also ranked 2nd among private/self-financed universities in the ARIIA Rankings 2020. As per the most recent NIRF rankings for 2022, this institute ranked 36th in the overall category, 24th in engineering, and 12th in pharmacy.

The university has UG and PG programs in many fields, like management, agriculture, and health sciences. It also has provisions for distance education for students who cannot come to campus. It also has a centre that gives certificate courses in performing arts like vocal music. SRM is in collaboration with Trinity College of Music, London, and gives training in western classical music. The campus also has a nanotechnology cell where students can do research in this field. For advanced research, they have developed an earthquake cell. This cell has international collaboration with Taiwan and Thailand. They also have a centre of Statistics. The University has an internal assurance quality cell that makes sure that all the academic and administrative work is done on time.

SRM Kattankulathur admits students from other countries during the first-year intake. Exchange programs are also there where students get admission in the middle. More than 700 international students studied on the campus. It has also collaborated with 60+ international institutions, and more than 32,000 international publications have been published.

SRM Kattankulathur Campus admits students in sciences, humanities, management, and many engineering courses. In some programs, students get admission directly. For other programs, they have to appear for a national-level exam, which was conducted by SRM University. The students are called for counselling when they fulfill the minimum criteria in the qualifying exam. Candidates have the freedom to choose the campus and course they want to enrol in. The students can also enrol in distance learning programs. They can directly download the form from the university website, fill it out and submit it to the department they are interested in. Students who wish to take admission in the engineering degree have to write the university’s own entrance exam, named SRMJEEE. NRI/PIO/OCI candidates are also admitted through this exam. Those who wish to study law at this university have to write their own joint entrance test for law. Based on the marks scored in the exam and other criteria, a student gets admission to the Law faculty. LLB (Hons.) & LLM (International Trade Law) do not require any entrance exam.

Students who wish to do a Bsc and a PG diploma in hotel management have to score more than 60% on the qualifying exam and later attend the e-counselling. If they score less than 60%, they will have to take one interview test. Upon selection, they get the allotment letter for their confirmation of admission.

For Ph.D. admissions, the students have to write an entrance exam on the SRM campus. The entrance test will have half the questions based on research methodology and the other half subject-specific. After this, the student has to give a presentation on his research area and interview. If any student has qualified for UGC-NET/ CSIR NET/ SLET/ GATE, there is no entrance exam required.

SRM Chennai KTR campus supports students who excel in academics and sports and really deserve it. The SRM founder’s scholarship is really popular because it offers a full fee waiver, including charges for hostel and mess. It also gives 1000 INR to students per month. The students who top the SRMJEEE/JEE exam or state top rankers are eligible for this scholarship. A 25% to 100% scholarship is also given to students who are economically weak. There are also provisions for scholarships for physically challenged and minority students. If any student has amazing creativity in fine arts and literature, he is also likely to get a scholarship.

Scholarships are also available for students who are from Africa, Asia, and SAARC nations. They get a 50% tuition fee waiver on their yearly fees. The students also get a 50% tuition fee waiver based on their SAT scores, set up by SRM University. If a student scores above 70% in their relevant subjects at the 10+2 level, he will be eligible for a 50% scholarship for the entire program.

The university also gives soft education loans to aspiring students who want to study at SRM. The ICICI Bank is in collaboration with the university to assist students with education loans. The loans are sanctioned as soon as the student gets their confirmed letter of admission.
