SSN College of Engineering

In the year 1996, the SSN College of Engineering (Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering ) was founded; and subsequently, started functioning in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Initially, the College, having affiliation with Anna University, was operating from the interim campus at Thoraipakkam that is traced to the suburbs of Chennai. Later on, in the year 1998, the College shifted to a campus spanning over 1 square kilometer at Kalavakkam, Rajiv Gandhi Salai.

In the year 2001, the SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering was set up in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University.

Over 2 decades, since inception, the College has earned repute and risen to become one of India’s best private engineering institutions. Moreover, among the several educational institutions that are affiliated to Chennai’s Anna University, the SSNCE is one of the best-performing ones under the given category.

The College is grouped under the SSN Group of Institutions that was set up by Dr. Shiv Nadar, who is the Chairman of one of India’s premier multinational technology companies, HCL Technologies.

In the field of engineering, SSNCE offers 8 Graduate programs and 10 postgraduate ones. The Center strives to develop the students holistically through a healthy balance of academic sessions and various interactions.

The SSN institutions are recognized as premier learning centers, striving for excellence in the fields of education and research. At SSN, the aspirants can avail a unique blend of accredited courses at doctoral, graduate, and postgraduate levels.

Spread over 250 acres of peaceful surroundings, the SSN institutions are supported by well-qualified faculty members. Also, the center has well-maintained residential provisions along with other modern infrastructural facilities. Moreover, efforts are invested to create an academic environment that is conducive for intellectual growth, in addition to offering distinctive learning opportunities for developing skills and becoming adequately equipped to contribute to society in an effective and meaningful way.

Coupled with academics, the SSN students have several extracurricular and co-curricular activities that they can partake in. The SSN student life entails engagement in sports, cultural and recreational events. The institution has set up a Placement Cell for providing placement opportunities to the students after course completion as well. In short, at SSN, the pupils can avail an academically-sound environment where faculty members and acquaintances play an integral role in their transformation from learners to professionals.

The Institution has the support of a sound alumni network where alumni meets are hosted every year, thereby giving past students an opportunity to contribute to SSN and mentor the current student batches.

The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) has given the ISO 9001:2000 certification to the College. Also, during March 2018, the University Grants Commission (UGC) was bestowed autonomous status to the distinguished engineering institution.

The SSN College of Engineering admission procedure is conducted on the basis of merit and management, even as the learning institution makes provisions for scholarships to people who hail from all walks of life. Some percentage of seats is offered through the Anna University Single Window System (AU SWS) and is filled on merit basis.

For the rest of the seats, the aspirants have to appear for the SSN College of Engineering entrance exam; these seats come under the management quota, with the percentage of this quota varying every year. Likewise, for SSNCE’s Masters Programs, the seats are allocated as per the TANCET scores of AU SWS and entrance examination.

For the year 2018, the SSN College of Engineering Ranking in India was 36 among India’s engineering colleges by the National Institutional Ranking Framework. In the year 2017, Outlook India ranked the College 24 among the country’s engineering colleges, too.

Additionally, SSN has a scholarship program under which scholarships to the tune of Rs. 4 crores are given each year to ensure that no student who is offered admission to SSN loses out on the given opportunity due to financial constraints.

Indeed, the College’s Central Library’s catalogue covers a large number of online databases, titles, volumes, journals, periodicals, and magazines.
