In the year 1996, the SSN College of Engineering (Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering ) was founded; and subsequently, started functioning in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Initially, the College, having affiliation with Anna University, was operating from the interim campus at Thoraipakkam that is traced to the suburbs of Chennai. Later on, in the year 1998, the College shifted to a campus spanning over 1 square kilometer at Kalavakkam, Rajiv Gandhi Salai.
In the year 2001, the SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering was set up in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University.
Over 2 decades, since inception, the College has earned repute and risen to become one of India’s best private engineering institutions. Moreover, among the several educational institutions that are affiliated to Chennai’s Anna University, the SSNCE is one of the best-performing ones under the given category.
The College is grouped under the SSN Group of Institutions that was set up by Dr. Shiv Nadar, who is the Chairman of one of India’s premier multinational technology companies, HCL Technologies.
In the field of engineering, SSNCE offers 8 Graduate programs and 10 postgraduate ones. The Center strives to develop the students holistically through a healthy balance of academic sessions and various interactions.

The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) has given the ISO 9001:2000 certification to the College. Also, during March 2018, the University Grants Commission (UGC) was bestowed autonomous status to the distinguished engineering institution.
The SSN College of Engineering admission procedure is conducted on the basis of merit and management, even as the learning institution makes provisions for scholarships to people who hail from all walks of life. Some percentage of seats is offered through the Anna University Single Window System (AU SWS) and is filled on merit basis.
For the rest of the seats, the aspirants have to appear for the SSN College of Engineering entrance exam; these seats come under the management quota, with the percentage of this quota varying every year. Likewise, for SSNCE’s Masters Programs, the seats are allocated as per the TANCET scores of AU SWS and entrance examination.
For the year 2018, the SSN College of Engineering Ranking in India was 36 among India’s engineering colleges by the National Institutional Ranking Framework. In the year 2017, Outlook India ranked the College 24 among the country’s engineering colleges, too.
