Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University was formerly known as Ranchi College which was established as a Government Intermediate College in 1926 and started providing Graduation and Post Graduation courses in 1946. In the year 2017, the college was upgraded as a University. It is accredited by NAAC and approved by UGC.
Vision: To strengthen the foundations of University through enhanced participation, providing quality education and academic freedom to the students. It aims to inculcate social responsibilities among the students and encourages them to identify their potential.
Mission: To create an institutional environment which fosters creativity, nurtures human values, promotes work ethics, and facilitates intellectual culture for the holistic development of the students. DSPMU provides financial assistance and scholarships to the students. The scholarships provided by the University include:
DSPMU Ranchi has a Training and Placement Cell which provides support, counselling, and guidance to the students. The Cell serves as a link between the University and the industries. It organises career guidance programs, training sessions, mock interviews, group discussions, workshops, seminars, guest lectures, etc. for the students. Along with this, the cell also provides training for Public Sector Exams to the students who are keen to join the government sector.
