IHM Shimla: Admission 2025, Fees, Scholarship

IHM Shimla came into existence in the year 1986 as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The institute is affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology (NCHMCT). IHM Shimla offers a B.Sc, and an M.Sc program at the UG & PG levels in the field of hospitality. The M.Sc course is offered jointly by NCHMCT and IGNOU. Along with this, the institute also offers admission to the diploma programs in hospitality & hotel administration.

Mission: The aim of the college is to provide high-quality and practical hospitality education to its students so that they can become successful professionals in this field at the global level.

IHM Shimla offers a B.Sc and a M.Sc program for a duration of 3 years and 2 years respectively. Also, diploma programs are available in Food Production and Food & Beverage Services for a duration of one and a half years. One year is completely dedicated to academics followed by industrial training for the rest of 6 months. The eligibility criteria for the mentioned programs are tabulated below for your reference:

*Candidates seeking admission to the B.Sc program at IHM Shimla must have attained an age of 22 years at the time of admission. It is relaxable up to 25 years for SC and ST candidates. For Diploma admission, the age limit is restricted to 25 years and for the candidates belonging to the reserved categories, the age must not exceed 28 years.

*Also, there is a reservation policy for the candidates belonging to the EWS (General), OBC (NCL), SC & ST which is 10%, 27%, 15%, and 7.5%. For PwD candidates with 40% or more disability, 5% of seats are reserved.

Admission Process

For admission to the B.Sc, and M.Sc programs at IHM Shimla, it is mandatory for the students to have cleared the NCHM JEE and M.Sc JEE respectively. The entire admission process for these programs are mentioned below:

• Registration: Visit the official website and register yourself for the exam you’re interested in taking. Check the eligibility criteria before you submit your application. Pay the examination fee and complete the registration process
• Appear for the Entrance Exam: The authorities will declare the date of the exam. The examinations usually take place in written mode, and are conducted in major centres like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida, etc. Reach the examination centre on time and take the exam.
• Declaration of Result: The authorities will declare the result on the official website on a prescribed date. Students whose names appear on the list will be allowed for the further procedure.
• Counselling Registration and Choice Filling: Based on the NCHM JEE or M.Sc JEE merit, students are allowed to participate in the counselling process. They have to register themselves through the portal and pay one-time non-refundable registration fees. In this process, students are required to opt their choices of institution and they may select their choice of institute or more. The counselling is conducted in a total of 4 rounds.
• Allotment of seats and Document verification: Candidates who are allotted the seat as per their choice have to confirm and lock the seat by paying the seat acceptance fee. Further, they must upload the required documents for online document verification.
• Final Admission: After all these procedures, candidates have to report at the institute carrying their original documents for final admission. They must pay the admission fees and secure a seat at the institute.

The institute also offers direct admission to the M.sc program to the candidates who meet the following eligibility requirements, and such candidates are exempted from taking the M.sc JEE exam:

• Must have passed the B.Sc Degree Hospitality and Hotel Administration from NCHMCT-IGNOU; OR
• Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management from a recognised university and the institute is approved by AICTE by securing not less than 55% and having 2 years or more working experience in 3-star and above rated hotel industry

To apply for the M.Sc program at IHM Shimla through direct admission, candidates have to visit the official website of Tourism & Hospitality Institute Management System, Govt. of India, and apply through online admission portal. Further, they will have to send the print out of the filled application form along with copies of educational and industry experience certificates at the given address. If the applicants are found eligible, they will be communicated through email.

*Only 10% of seats at the institute are filled up through the direct admission process.
