The Islamia College of Science and Commerce came into existence in the year 1961 as an autonomous institution, and it has a vision of providing higher learning and center of perfection in the sphere of education by inspiring the young student to inculcate values of humanity, a spirit of tolerance, cosmopolitan outlook, brotherhood, and modern science and technology among its aspirants. It already has a vibrant outlook as a hub of sporting, cultural, and extracurricular activities. The college is on a path of transformation into a well-established university and working on emerging as a university of international repute.
With the mission to promote the spread of education, no matter the candidate’s region, caste, religion, color, gender, ethnicity, etc. To ensure peace and harmony within the society, they sympathize with the underprivileged and downtrodden people of the society and provide them with good quality education and helping them in financial matters so that they can contribute to the welfare of the nation in its entirety.
It has an affiliation with reputed UGC and Grade A accreditation from NAAC. The institute has a ranking of 87 for B.B.A. in India. Admission is seen through the merit-based on the marks of the qualifying examination.
Students who have done the Higher Secondary examination from Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education or equivalent examination by the University of Kashmir/JKBOSE are eligible for admission to the institute. For the science stream, Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination with not less than 45% marks. For BBA/ B.Com/ BCA and B.Sc IT, the candidates must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
The library at Islamia presently consists of over 100,000 books and manuscripts. The name ‘Maulana Rasool Shah Memorial Library’ had been coined by the chief minister of the state when the college was first built. It is the 1st fully automated and technologically advanced set-up in the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir. Students can benefit hugely from the huge stock of books in the library, as it contains all the books required to go through the entire academic year. Faculty members, researchers, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students can all borrow books from the library.
