Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University was established in 1989. It is the first veterinary university of the nation. It has 5+ Veterinary College, 10+ Diagnostic Centres and Research Laboratories, 8+ Research Farms, 2+ Krishi Vigyan Kendra, 2+ Farmers’ Training Centres, 18+ Veterinary University Training and Research Centres, College of Poultry Production and Management, and College of Food and Dairy Technology. It is a State University approved by UGC and recognised by ICAR.
Vision: To become an institute of international excellence by pursuing research and providing education in Animal, Food, and Veterinary Sciences. Moreover, it aims at innovations, skills, and knowledge for enhancing the productivity of livestock and poultry through social, environmental, and economically relevant technologies.
Mission: To impart quality education, to emphasise on research, and undertake programs for rural people in different domains of Animal, Food, and Veterinary Sciences in co-operation with the government.

TANUVAS has a University Students Counseling and Placement Cell which is responsible to provide guidance and career advice to the students. It conducts workshops, pre-placement talks, job fairs, and provide information to the students about various career opportunities. It helps make informed choices and facilitates internship and employment opportunities for the students.
TANUVAS provides different facilities for the betterment of the students. This includes the Library which is stocked with Journals, Books, Back Volume, Thesis, Documents, Databases, E-Resources, etc. It provides reprographic services, book bank services, internet, reference services, plagiarism checking tool, OPAC, etc. Hostel facilities are also provided to the students. The hostels are equipped with furnished rooms, mess, TV, common room, warden, and all the basic services. Along with this, the students are provided with a seminar hall, auditorium, clubs, sports facilities, medical facilities, etc.
