Government Holkar Science College, Indore was established in the year 1891 as a Public (Autonomous) Educational Institution. Government Holkar Science College Indore is accredited by NAAC, and is affiliated with Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. Government Holkar Science College, Indore also known as Holkar College was established on June 10, 1981. The college was initially affiliated with Calcutta University, then came under the jurisdiction of Allahabad University, and is currently affiliated with Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV). It is approved by UGC with ‘Autonomous’ status and is accredited by NAAC.
Vision: The vision of the college is to continue the rich legacy of disseminating scientific knowledge and to groom its students to become intellectual, social, and kind human beings.
Mission: Its mission is to improve academics that meets the global standards to foster socially responsible and value-driven generation.
The college has 23 departments under which it offers courses at UG, PG, Ph.D, and Post graduate diploma level in the field of Science and Humanities. B.Sc and M.Sc programs in several disciplines like Biochemistry, Computer Science, Horticulture, Microbiology, Zoology, Forensic Science, Cyber Security, Fisheries, Seed Technology, etc are run by the college.
The college adopts the CLC Level process to admit students to the college. Under this, the online merit list will be prepared based on the vacant seats at the college, courses, and category and by following the reservation criteria of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh. According to the reservation guidelines, 16% and 20% of seats are reserved for SC and ST category, respectively and 27% seats are reserved for OBC category (excluding creamy layer).

The college has a Swami Vivekananda Career Guidance and Counseling Cell & Placement Cell which works dedicatedly to provide job opportunities to students. The Cell grooms its students by identifying their strengths and weaknesses and makes them ready for the industrial world. The various activities undertaken by the Cell include industry training sessions, internships, workshops, and more. It also helps students by developing their resume writing skills, interview techniques, etc.
The college is developed on 34.5 acres of land in an area between Bhanwar Kua and the Kamla Nehru Zoological Park, Indore, M.P. There are three major blocks namely Academic Block, Siddhivinayak Block, and the Red Building. The infrastructures of the campus include over 30 buildings. Main Building, Red Building, Chemistry Block Building, and Yashwant Hall are among the several buildings present in the campus. Cultural and other programs are conducted in the Heritage mini auditorium called, Yashwant Hall and multipurpose open stage built in the centre of the campus.
