SRGCDS offers this undergraduate program in dentistry which has a four year study period, leading to awarding of BDS degree. Every academic year comprises of 240 schooling days and one-year rotary internship. Therefore all students will have to undertake and complete one-year internship, after clearing the final exam of BDS.
Since the internship is compulsory, a student will be awarded the BDS certification only and only after completing the internship. Students receive instructions on nine distinct branches of dental sciences as well as eight branches of medical science. The candidates gain knowledge on oral medicine and radiology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, conservative dentistry and endodontics, orthodontics & dentofacial orthopedics, and so on.
They also learn about human physiology, human anatomy & histology, pharmacology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, general medicine, and general surgery. To qualify for this undergraduate program, aspirants have to pass the 10+2 final exam of any recognized state or central education board. The subject combination should be biology, chemistry, and physics and the medium of instruction must be English.
Additionally, the applicants must attain at least 50% in aggregate in the core subjects (physics, chemistry, and biology). At the same time, the candidates should clear a national or state level entrance examination (CET) and score a minimum of 50% in PCB on an aggregated basis. Every student should compulsorily attend nothing less than 80% of both theoretical and clinical/practical classes for getting promoted from one year to the other.
Also, a student will need to achieve at least 50% in every subject (50% separately for theory and practical) to be eligible for getting the BDS degree. Moreover, students as constituents of the community program in dentistry will be required to participate in assorted field events and dental camps.
The Masters in Dental Surgery or MDS program has a three year study period and is a fulltime, on-campus course.
Hence every MDS student has to devote a minimum of three years to studying as a fulltime candidate for earning the master's degree. The program requires the student to choose and specialize in his or her preferred area, out of the eight distinct branches of dentistry. Some of the specializations include oral medicine & radiology, oral & maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, and crown & bridge, conservative dentistry and endodontics. Postgraduate students will have to train fulltime shall be full time, where they have to treat and supervise patients delegated to their care.
Students have to mandatorily participate in every aspect pertaining to the educational procedure. That in essence implies, candidates should participate in, group discussions, seminars, case studies and demonstrations, grand rounds, journal review meetings, clinical reviews and meetings, and CPC. Every student must take part in the training and teaching sessions for undergraduate (BDS) students.
Training programs usually involve experimental field work and laboratory experiments and insightful research studies. The applicants must meet the minimum eligibility criterions mandated by DCI in order to apply to this postgraduate program. First and foremost, they should hold a BDS degree of an institution approved by DCI.
Additionally, they should have scored at least 50% marks in the final exam of the BDS program. They should also have attained the minimum cutoff marks in a national level common entrance examination.
