Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) - The B. Pharm or Bachelor of Pharmacy program of Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy is 4-year, full-time, on-campus course. The entire syllabus of the program is spread across eight semesters, each semester lasting for six months. Students who enroll for the program, via lateral entry, need to study for three years or complete six semesters.
The Syllabus or curricula for the program has the approval of the Pharmacy Council of India headquartered in New Delhi. The basic eligibility criterion is that the candidate should have cleared his or her higher secondary/10+2 exam of a certified state or central education board. Additionally, English must have been a compulsory subject along with a subject combination of PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) or PCB/PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology).
The candidate should have secured an aggregate score of 45% in his or her 10+2 board examination. Alternatively, a candidate who has a D. Pharm (Diploma in Pharmacy) certificate from a PCI-approved institute is eligible for direct admission via the lateral entry system. The student can start attending classes for B. Pharm from 3rd semester onwards.
Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharm) - D. Pharm is a full-time program extending for two years campus. The professors take classes for theoretical subjects for a period extending at least 180 days. 500 hours of hands-on training is provided covering a period of nothing less than three months.
Some of the subjects included in the D. Pharm course are pharmaceutics, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical chemistry, hospital, and clinical pharmacy, pharmacology, and toxicology. The applicant has to pass the 10+2/intermediate exam in the science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and English as compulsory subjects. One other compulsory subject should be mathematics or biology.
A candidate who has cleared the first year of the three-year graduation course (in science stream) is also eligible. Furthermore, a student possessing any other academic certification recognized by PCI is qualified to apply for the program as well.
Pharm. D - The Doctor of Pharmacy program has a six-year duration out of which five years are devoted to academic sessions. In the sixth or final year, the student has to complete an internship in a hospital, for gaining practical experience. Once a student completes the course, he or she is in a position to counsel patients and offer pharmaceutical care.
Any candidate who has passed the P.U.C examination conducted by P.U.C. Board, under the Karnataka government, can apply. Alternatively, a student having the 10+2 pass certificate of any recognized university or board is also eligible to apply. Three of the subjects must be Physics, English, and Chemistry with the 4th compulsory subject being Biology or Mathematics.
Marks attained in all the compulsory subjects should be at least 40% on an aggregate basis. The doctorate program is also open to candidates who’ve cleared the D. Pharm program from an institute approved by PCI. The candidate must have achieved a minimum of 40% in aggregate in the final exam of the D. Pharm course.
Pharm. D (Post Baccalaureate) - Students are applying for the Pharm. D (post-baccalaureate) course has to complete prescribed subjects in the first two years. The 3rd or final year of the program is set aside for completing an internship in a hospital or infirmary. A candidate with a Bachelor of Pharmacy certificate from a university or institution recognized by PCI is eligible for the course.
Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) - Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy M. Pharm program is a 2-year course spread across four semesters. An M. Pharm aspirant can opt to specialize in pharmaceutical quality assurance, pharmacy practice, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, pharmaceuticals or pharmaceutical chemistry. All those who possess the B. Pharm documentation of any PCI-recognized academic body can apply to this course.
Moreover, the student needs to score at least 55% marks in the B. Pharm exam to be eligible for admission. Once a student gains admission, he or she should obtain a registration certificate from the ‘State Pharmacy Council’ within a month of receiving enrollment notice.
PhD- Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy offers a host of doctorate/M. Phil programs with specializations in various disciplines. The Ph.D. programs have a 3-year duration, classes for which the university holds regular classes. One can apply for Ph.D. in pharmacy practice, quality assurance, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical marketing & management, pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry or pharmaceutics. A candidate who has completed his or her M. Pharm from a certified institution can opt for the Ph.D. program.
