Affiliated to RGUHS (Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences), AAMC mainly enlists students for the 5 and half years BAMS program. The course curriculum has been devised and recommended by the Central Council of Indian Medicines with approval from Ayush Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In the initial four and a half years, students gain comprehensive knowledge about the varied subjects and disciplines of Ayurveda and Ayurvedic treatment methods.
In the concluding year, students opt for a mandatory internship in the teaching and training hospital situated within the campus. All other programs offered by AAMC run as adjunct courses with their curriculums being a subset of the comprehensive BAMS syllabus. Other courses comprise a 4-month finishing school-styled program conducted by any educational institution worldwide that gives credence to Ayurvedic therapy.
The BAMS program not only helps the students to gain Ayurvedic treatment skills but also aids them in developing a magnetic persona. The undergraduate program goes a long way in enabling learners to develop soft skills, essential for practicing as an accomplished Ayurveda professional. The students receive thorough exposure for professing Ayurveda in India and abroad as well as appreciate the scope of this traditional treatment technique from an overall perspective.
Once the students are through with the BAMS program, they gain the confidence and the self-belief to practice effectively in the healthcare sector. Students learn the basic principles of Ayurveda, anatomy (Rachana Sharira), physiology (Kriya Sharira), pharmacology (Dravyaguna), medical jurisprudence and toxicology (Agada Tantra), pharmaceutical science (Rasa Shastra), pathology (Roga Nidana and Vikriti Vigyana), preventive and social medicine (Swasthavritta), pediatrics (Kaumarbhritya). The pupils also pick up the basics of panchakarma (five-fold detoxification therapy), medicine (Kaya Chikitsa), ENT & eye (Shalakya Tantra), general surgery (shalya tantra), gynecology & obstetrics (parasitic tantra and stri roga).
In the final year, students have to undergo a compulsory internship in the attached hospital where they get to put their learned skills into practice. The graduating students make the most of the laboratory equipment and treatment devices for applying their theoretical skills.
Applicants must have secured at least 50% marks in physics, chemistry, and botany in aggregate. Candidates also have to clear the NEET/PMT national level entrance examination to guarantee chances of admission.
