The curriculum for B. Pharmacy stretches over a period of four years. Those admitted to the program via the lateral entry mode start attending classes directly from the second year. Applicants who have cleared the 10+2 examination from any recognized state or central board of education can apply for B. Pharm.
Applicants have to score at least 40% marks in aggregate with PCB or PCM as combination of subjects.
Candidates who possess D. Pharmacy certification approved by (PCI) with minimum 50% marks in aggregate can apply as well. Those holding a D. Pharm. Degree will apply for the program through the lateral entry system. Lateral entry candidates will have to complete statistics, computer science, and mathematics apart from the regular 2nd year subjects.
Students need to complete specific subjects during the study period and also do an internship in a pharmaceutical manufacturing establishment. Some of the subjects covered during the four-year period include human anatomy & physiology, pharmaceutics, physical pharmaceutics, pathophysiology, and so on.
The syllabus of the D. Pharm Course extends for two years. Every academic year comprises a period of at least one hundred and eighty days of classroom study and five hundred hours of hands-on training. A candidate who wishes to apply to this diploma program in pharmacy must clear the 10+2 examination in science stream.
The combination of subjects in the science stream should be physics, mathematics, and chemistry. Students gain knowledge on pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, biochemistry & clinical pathology, toxicology, hospital & clinical pharmacy, and many other subjects.
The Doctorate of Pharmacy or Pharm. D program’s curriculum is spread across six years. In the first five years, students gain knowledge about various theoretical concepts of pharmacy that involves learning theoretical concepts pertaining to clinical preparations. In the sixth and final year, the students do an internship in a well-known firm for gaining practical experience.
The Pharm. D (Post Baccalaureate) program has a curriculum that students normally complete in three years. During the first two years, students attend classes and the final year is scheduled for residency or internship.
Students learn about pharmaceutics, medicinal biochemistry, pharmaceutical organic and inorganic chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutical microbiology, clinical toxicology, and other relevant subjects. Students attend classes on at least two hundred days in every academic year. In the final year, students work in specialty units engaged in clinical pharmacy services or pharmacy practice.
After receiving Pharm. D certification, budding pharmacists can apply for a job in the areas of community pharmacy, biotechnology, toxicology, and numerous other pharmaceutical segments. Any student who has cleared the higher secondary examination with chemistry and physics as mandatory subjects can apply for Pharm. D. The applicant must have appeared in either biology or mathematics in the 10 +2 exam, apart from the compulsory subjects.
The Masters in Pharmacy (M. Pharm.) is a two year course where students receive instructions on pharmaceutics, pharmacology, quality assurance, and pharmaceutical chemistry. M. Pharm. Students also have to submit a dissertation or thesis on a specific topic at the end of the academic term. Students gain knowledge about modern pharmaceutical analysis, biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, advanced pharmacology & toxicology, molecular biology, pharmaceutical and cosmetic analysis.
Any candidate having a B. Pharm degree of a university or institution approved by PCI and AICTE can apply to this program. Additionally, the applicant has to secure at least 55% marks in aggregate in order to maximize admission chances.
