Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College offers a full time five years course of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), 3-years postgraduate course in Doctorate of Medicine having different specialization, a 2-year full-time course of Master of Surgery with different specialization, and a 2-year full-time Postgraduate Diploma in different medical specializations.
MBBS is an undergraduate course in the medical field of 5.5 years followed by a year of compulsory internship. The total number of seats on offer is 100. In this undergraduate course, students get a brief lesson about human anatomy, human cytology, chemistry, pharmaceutical, drug formulation, and method of surgery.
To take admission, students must have passed the P.U.C examination conducted by the Karnataka state, with Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as optional subjects. Candidates must pass the B.Sc examination from any recognized university and have any subjects among Physics, Botany, Chemistry, and Zoology.
Appearance in the NEET examination is mandatory for candidates to take admission in the institution. This course contains subjects like biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, microbiology, pathology, and pharmacology. Students get 5 years of training by interacting with patients and gaining practical knowledge of diseases. After completing the MBBS degree, candidates have two options either to start their firm or go for a job in the medical field.
Doctorate of Medicine is a 3-year postgraduate course that teaches medical in detail. This course provides students with the knowledge of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. It is a combination of both theoretical knowledge and practical exposure in the field of medical science. The college offers various specializations in this course including Anatomy, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, Microbiology, General Medicine, Microbiology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Pharmacology, Physiology, Radio diagnosis, and Anesthesiology.
To take admission in this postgraduate course, candidates must have full registration approved by Medical Council of India and have completed one year of internship from any recognized university. Appearance in the NEET examination is compulsory and candidates are selected based on the entrance exam scores.
After the completion of the course, students can join various Research and Educational Institutes as doctors and research scholars. They can be recruited by any hospital or clinic where they can practice, or they can get opportunities to join military services or biomedical companies.
This course is a 2-year postgraduate program trains students for operative procedures related to various diseases and injuries. The coursework of the program includes a balance of both theoretical lectures and practical sessions providing students with knowledge on the surgical treatment of abdominal organs. Students are built up in such a way during the academic session that they are prepared to carry out these surgeries with proper prevention and treatment. The college offers specialization in different fields of surgery including General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and E.N.T.
For admissions, candidates must have passed their bachelor’s degree with at least 50% of aggregate marks. Candidates who have finished their MBBS degree with a year of internship are also eligible to apply for this course. The maximum age limit to apply for this course is 35 years.
After the completion of the course, candidates can become Endocrine Surgeon, Neurosurgeon, Researcher, Plastic Surgeon, Pediatric Surgeon, Vascular Surgeon, and can join any institution as a Lecturer or Professor in the field of medical studies.
The institution provides a Postgraduate diploma in various fields of medical science including, Anesthesia, Clinical Pathology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology. To take admission in the course, candidates must have passed MBBS or any equivalent degree from any recognized university with one year of internship in the medical field. The course deals with various medical practices and students must choose in which field they want to make their career.
After the completion of the degree, candidates can go for higher studies or they can become Pathologists, Medical consultants, Anesthetist, Surgeons, Dermatologist, Medical Product Manager, or Gynecologist, etc.
