West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, Kolkata established in 1995 is a State University, currently having 28th position in NIRF Ranking 2024. The West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS) Kolkata is the second university in India providing education and conducting research in veterinary and animal sciences, fishery sciences and dairy sciences. The university was set-up in the year 1995 and has gained “State University” status with the approval of UGC.
The university is working to fulfill its objective of providing quality education in the livestock and fisheries sectors to increase productivity and to accelerate innovative technologies to cater to the needs of the farming community in West Bengal.
WBUAFS offers UG, PG, and research level courses in diverse areas relating to livestock and fisheries sectors. M.V.Sc and Ph.D in Animal Nutrition, Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, M.F.Sc in Fishing Technology & Engineering, M.F.Sc and Ph.D in Aquaculture, B.Tech (Dairy Technology), M.Tech in Dairy Engineering are some of the courses run by the university. Admissions to Bachelor’s programs in the university are through NEET-UG administered by National Testing Agency. Candidates for PG programs are shortlisted based on the merit list (80% weightage) and performance in the personal interview round (20% weightage). Moreover, a medical fitness exam can be taken for admission to PG courses. However, it is not obligatory.
Candidates having one of the following degrees: M.V.Sc / M.F.Sc / M.Tech with a score of at least 55% or OGPA 6.75 on a scale of 10 can apply for admission to Ph.D courses in the university. The selection of candidates is on the basis of the academic performance (80% weightage) and Personal interview (20% weightage).
* Candidates selected through ICAR all India Examination are free from the above-said selection rounds for both PG and Ph.D courses.

WBUAFS students are granted scholarships based on the merit and the annual family income of their family. The University grants scholarships to the deserving candidates with the approval and guidelines issued by the Government of West Bengal. To make sure that no student is deprived of education on account of financial issues, WBUAFS grants SC/ST minorities’ scholarship, DST-INSPIRE Fellowship, and more scholarships following the rules and regulations laid down by the state government.

West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences Fee Structure
The University has a Placement Cell working towards providing job opportunities to the students since 2006. The Cell works dedicatedly to provide guidance and training to polish the skills and to increase the number of employment opportunities for its students.
Many of the passed-out students from the three faculties in the university are employed in different sectors in India and abroad. The well-known companies that have offered different positions to the university graduates include Nestle India, Hindustan Lever, ITC Infotech, Amul, Perfetti Van-Melle, TCS, Mother Dairy, besides some of the students who have passed out from the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and Faculty of Fishery Sciences are working at State Governments Department of Fishery and other Administrative services, Animal and Fish feed producing Private Companies, etc.
WBUAFS has set-up different campuses with one at Belgachia (main campus), Mohanpur, and Chakgaria in Kolkata, West Bengal. The campuses are equipped and have decent infrastructure facilities which are upgraded from time to time to meet the changing requirements in education.
