RV College of Architecture was established in 1992 as the Department of Architecture in RV College of Engineering and was later renamed to RV School of Architecture. Seminar Hall of RVCA is fully air - conditioned and equipped with projectors & public address systems with 100+ people seating capacity. R.V. College of Architecture was founded in 1992. Originally the institute began its journey as Department of Architecture under R.V. College of Engineering in Bengaluru. The department moved to a brand new building that was inside the college campus, in 1995. The department was renamed to R.V. School of Architecture when it was declared autonomous in 2009. In that same year, the college was approved by the Council of Architecture, India and designated to R.V. College of Architecture. The college shifted to a new campus and became an affiliate to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Karnataka, in 2014. The new campus has Academic Block classrooms, studio, seminar halls, Administration Block as well as Hostel facility. It is a prime example of modern architecture.
The purpose of establishing the college is to provide the students with quality education, take care of their academic studies and offer them research and skills for a modern society. The college aims to turn students into professionals that have creative thinking ability and question things that they are curious to learn and know about. The students are equipped with excellent architectural as well as urban design education as the institute appoints the best faculty and advanced technology on the campus. The college fosters activities related to research in architecture and design that benefits society. By establishing an institution consultancy, the institute aims to share the intellectual advantages as well as professional abilities with the society. The college also provides the students with a lifetime learning experience through global exchange programs. The faculty is carefully selected by analyzing their skills and specialty so that the students can learn from the best. The college also engages with the best architects working in Bengaluru as well as other places who come to the college as visiting faculty.
R.V.C.A. also provides the faculty of architecture with quality improvement programs and offers the professionals with continuing education programs as required by the Council of Architecture. RVCA in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Architects, Karnataka organizes seminars and workshops for the students. As mentioned above, the college provides the students with exchange programs. The programs have taken place between the University of Muenster of Germany and RVCA, and also between RVCA and Moratuwa University, Sri Lanka.
The consultancy cell of the college is responsible for the projects related to advocacy, design, and research in both public as well as private sectors. The cell is engaged in development projects at the urban level and looks forward to developing a platform for a different perception of design in architecture, urban design, landscape, and development, all of these within the Bengaluru Metropolitan Area, in the country and at the international level. The consultancy cell addresses ecological, spatial and social dimensions with its integrated approach. The RSS trust that is the management of the college supports the consultancy cell and Professor Prasanna Rao co-ordinates the trust along with his highly qualified team. The purpose of this team is to scale up and collaborate to engage other experienced and skilled architects, designers and landscape architects as per the requirements of the project. The consultancy cell of RVCA has handled both individuals as well as collective and collaborative works of a variety of scales with the government as well as non-government agencies. Till date, the RSS trust has completed projects worth ?15 crores.
Due to the level and quality of work performed by RVCA in shaping the architectural education in the country in the last 20 years, the college has been regarded as one of India's top centers of excellence for urban studies and architecture. RVCA has a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bern University of Applied Sciences, Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering, Switzerland from the academic year 2011-13. It provides an exchange opportunity in which two students have the chance to switch from their colleges and study abroad every year.
The college had collaborated for a period of four years with School of Architecture, Muenster, Germany and the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka from the year 2005-08 for both the students and faculty members.
Publication and Documentation Centre of the college is focusedon bringing forward the publications for the purpose of research and resource material that improves the study of architecture. Apart from that, the center also publishes the works of selected students and undertakes the research and design consultancy of the college to keep track of the works that are taking place and also keeping a record that might be required for future purposes. The publication department of college is eager to form collaboration with authors, architects, and faculty members from different colleges and universities in order to publish valuable content in the field of architecture and related areas.
