Bharathidasan University - BDU Tiruchirappalli is a State University named after the renowned revolutionary poet, Bharathidasan. The university has been in existence since February 1982 and is now operating through its three campuses: Palkalaiperur campus, Khajamalai Campus, and BIM campus. The University is approved by UGC-DEB and is re-accredited by NAAC with “A+” grade.

Mission: Its mission is to promote scholarly, scientific and critical examination among the students by providing global competitive learning through its academic curriculum.
BDU Tiruchirappalli provides degrees in over 150 programs in its own schools and colleges or institutes affiliated with it. There are 4 faculties, 16 schools, 39 departments and 29 research centers running several UG, PG, and doctorate level courses. The long list of the courses provided by the university include Integrated B.Sc + M.Sc, Integrated B.Tech+ M.Tech, Integrated B.A+M.A, M.Sc, MBA, MCA, BCA, M.A, BP.Ed, Ph.D, and more in several disciplines.
Admissions to all UG and PG courses in the university are based on merit and follows the reservation policy of the Government of Tamil Nadu. However, admission to MBA and MCA is an exception, as the admissions to these courses are made following the norms laid down by Anna University and AICTE.

The university awards a number of scholarships from the government to the deserving candidates. Various Central and State Government scholarships like National Merit Scholarship for Meritorious Students, Government of India Scholarship for the Distance Learning Students Belonging to SC/ST, Government of India Scholarship for Minority Students, Scholarship for BC, MBC and DNC Students by Tamil Nadu Government, etc are received by students who fulfill the eligibility criteria of these scholarships. The Placement and Training Cell of the university is dedicated to provide better job opportunities to its students. To do the task, it conducts several programs such as Soft Skill Training Program, Career Counseling Program, Competitive Examination Coaching Program, English Communication Program, Organise Exhibition, Job Fair, Campus Interview, and more. To achieve the motto of finding best job opportunities, the Placement and Training Cell works jointly with the Career and Counseling Cell.
With the efforts of both the Cells many reputed and leading companies come to the university campus for placement. The number of companies visiting the university is increasing year after year adding some big names like Hero FinCorp, Paragon, IDBI Federal Life Insurance, JK Cement, Samastra Microfinance, Vee Technologies, Centizen, Xplore IT Corp, and more.
The main campus of the university i.e. Palkalaiperur campus is spread over an area of 432.42 acres. Initially the main campus was spread over 1000 acres of land, but as the time passed the south campus at Palkalaiperur campus was donated to Anna University of Technology. The main campus of the university was reconstructed and is equipped with the state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities. All the departments have smart classrooms, laboratories with the latest equipment, and computer facilities for research.
