National Institute of Technology was established in 1964 by the Government of India and was known as Regional Engineering College. It is located on Trichy-Tanjore national highway in Thuvakudi. It was established as a co-operative and joint venture of the Government of Tamil Nadu and Government of India. It is committed to create a learning environment, promote innovation, and provide holistic development to the students. It aims to become a globally trusted university for technical excellence. NITT was awarded the status of Deemed to be University in 2003. It is approved by UGC and AICTE.
