Tamil Nadu National Law University Fees Structure & Courses 2025, Tiruchirappalli

Tamil Nadu National Law University offers two UG courses which are B.A.LL.B (Hons.) and B.Com.LL.B (Hons.). Both of them being 5 year integrated courses there is no 3 years law courses here (Only the non-law subjects would differ). Apart from that it offers LL.M in Corporate and Securities Law, Intellectual Property Laws, Natural Resources Law, and Ph.D courses. The academics part of TNNLU is pretty good; people here are surrounded by brilliant minds motivating them to work harder. Just as most of the other NLU's have, we have 2 semesters per year, Odd and Even semester. For each year there would be Research Project, Mid Semester, End Semester and Internship break. And each year we have 2 internship breaks out of which it is mandatory to do at least 1 internship. They also specify the type of institution where we should be intern for each year, for example it is mandatory for a 1st year student to be an intern in a NGO at least once. Similarity, 3rd year student should have interned under any Advocate / Law firm dealing with Trial Court Cases or Sub- ordinate Judiciary at least once. The University has an Internships and placement committee, so, one can approach the committee to get internship or apply on their own. Obviously TNNLU, being one of the NLU's one has to clear CLAT in order to join this university, and to be honest, it's not that difficult to get into TNNLU, and you do have some perks if you are a Tamil Nadu students, because the cutoff's are pretty less comparatively. The admission process is very simple, once you are done with CLAT you have to apply for counseling in the Consortium website and there would be 5 provisional lists coming up and once your name is in there, you are selected and if you're not getting selected in any of the 5 lists, still your chances are not closed, you can apply through vacancy and get in. Vacancy policy to be in simple terms would mean that after all the 5 lists if the seats are not filled or if the students selected are now withdrawing their admissions then vacancy portal will be opened and applications would be invited. Also it is very important to note that the cutoff changes would be very drastic while comparing the provisional list and the vacancy. Again there is nothing to complaint about the academics in TNNLU it is actually very good, sometimes it becomes quite hectic when you have research paper submission and exams coming up and but it's all worth it, you will soon start enjoying the state of being busy. Coming to examinations part, this year we have 30- 30- 40 system where 30 marks for Research Projects, 30 for Mid seems (Mid semester is nothing but half portion kind of examinations), 40 for End semester. Coming to the difficulty level of exams, as a person whose ultimate goal was to clear CLAT get into a NLU and enjoy life. I forgot to mention about the timings of classes. It’s 9- 4 and sometimes till 6 or 7 pm if there are any tutorial hours and workshops.

As of now, the fee for UG is Rs. 2,80,000 lakh per annum. Some may think that this is quite high but the best part about this is Rs. 2,80,000 is the only amount that you will be paying. Unlike many other colleges, where you have separate tuition fees, mess fees and hostel fees and all. Here this amount would include all of that. You wouldn't have to pay for anything else much. Because most of them are included in this amount. And I personally believe that the amount is quite in range with what they offer. Also the most important part about the fees is, TNNLU provides full scholarship to government school students and their cutoff is also quite low. So if you are from govt. school background, no worries you don't have to pay anything. There are both BA.LL.B Hons and B.Com.LL.B Hons to choose from. The academics is quite rigorous with 2 slots of research projects per semester and along with mid semester and end semester exams. The entry is only through CLAT. Internship is to be done for a period of 4 weeks at-least once every year. Moot courts and ADR competitions are also given importance. I think that the internships every year at different places does play a major role in preparing us for real life challenges.

The yearly fee for LL.B Hons was nearly 3 lakhs which includes hostel, tuition and other charges. The Tamil Nadu government provides financial aid to government school students who have cleared CLAT. The complete fee is made by the government.Read Full Review

I am currently in my second year and have learned a lot apart from academics. Firstly, the faculty is very supportive and helpful. Secondly, the quality of the research projects we make is far better as it is a little bit strict on research-wise. My research has improved from the projects we make per semester. The best thing is that even the first years are allowed to participate in moots depending on the category they are applying to. There is a challenger round for every competition which gives you plenty of opportunities to get at least one competition per semester and there is no upper limit on the competition you do. It depends on how you balance both academics and competition. There are no class tests only projects and mid-semester and end-semester. There are also a lot of intra -competitions like Alternative dispute resolution competitions, debates, moots, and essay-writing competitions to improve the skills of students.
