Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics Reviews on Placement, Faculty, Hostel by Students

I am a former student of Sydenham College Mumbai and will admit to the fact that in recent few years, the college has lost the shine that it had probably 2 decades back. One can gauge the popularity of the college on how active the college is on web. The FB page of the college don’t have any recent post even on web, you will hardly find any details about the college which was once the best college for commerce this side of the Suez. I know after reading this review many people will do Google because there’s one fact about the college that no one knows and that is Sydenham was the first college for commerce incorporated by the Britishers in Asia. If you see the college prospectus and see the kind of gems that college have produced and that from all the fields be it politics, Bollywood or industrialists. I will share the reason of the downfall it’s the intake policy because if you compare it with the best commerce colleges like Poddar, NM, or HR, all of them are affiliated to Mumbai University and the low attendance with which the college is ok exists in all the colleges of Mumbai. Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics is a 100 years old institute is known for the values that it holds. The college was started by Britishers and is today one of the best commerce college under the University of Mumbai. Growing up in town I had my eyes set on Sydenham college from a very early age and joined it from the junior college itself. The college building is old, and the campus area is also small but I will ignore all of that as the studies that was the USP of this college was just incomparable to any other college of Mumbai. There are HR’s, NM’s, Jai Hind’s, and many more but Sydenham is at par with all of them. I would though say above par as I have seen the way studies that were done in other colleges. Sydenham gave leeway but not beyond studies and therefore those can stay strict with themselves should only join this college.Read Full Review

It has been a fair time since I passed out and I hope that the landscape must have changed. If you are someone who wants a job after B. Com or BMS then go for entrance test of Symbiosis or NM as they can guarantee you a job but not Sydenham. However, one thing that I would like to share is that they can get you campus placements alright, but their fees is quite high too. At Sydenham, we paid peanuts and graduated. Yes, without a job but when I had MBA in my plans rather than spending money in graduation, I spent that for MBA coaching and got admitted to one of the famous MBA colleges of the country. The harsh reality about the college is that no one cares. Whoever has taken the mettle to market the college are the worst people because Sydenham Alumni base is so strong and it should immediately show them on the web. It’s not the case though and even Wikipedia page of the college is quite poor.Read Full Review
