The institute was founded in the year 2002 and is operated under Bansilal Ramnath Agarwal Charitable Trust (BRACT). Furthermore, the institute is approved by AICTE.

The departments under which various courses are offered at VIIT are:
B.Tech Admission at VIIT Pune: A candidate seeking admission in B.Tech program of VIIT must have obtained at least 45% (40% marks for backward class students) marks in the higher secondary examinations. Students have to get qualifying marks in the MHT-CET exam to get admission in the B.Tech program. To move ahead with the admission procedure, students are required to complete the Online Registration from the official website of the college. The merit list will be displayed on the website.
M.Tech Admission at VIIT Pune: A candidate must have obtained at least 50% marks (45% in case of reserved category students) in graduation to be eligible to take admission in M.Tech Course. Also, the candidate should secure a good score in the GATE exam which is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). Interested candidates can apply online from the official website of the institute and verify the documents for confirmation of the application form.

Established in the year 2002, the Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology was started in order to meet the requirement of engineering students. Initiated by providing a degree in an engineering course at the undergraduate level, the college gradually started providing postgraduate degrees and doctorate courses. The college is having affiliation with reputed NAAC and NBA and is honored with ‘A’ Grade. The college is certified with ISO 9001-2005. Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology has its own admission procedure which every student has to follow for taking admission in the college. Admission in the B. Tech course demands a candidate to have JEE Main score and MHT-CET. Admissions in the M.Tech course demand candidates to have the required score of GATE/ MHT-CET. All the shortlisted candidates get a call from the college for counseling sessions that depends on their merit in the qualifying exam.
